Kick-start your IT career with Speller Metcalfe as a Trainee IT Support Apprentice

You’ll support colleagues with everyday tech, Microsoft 365, laptops and devices while gaining real hands-on experience in a friendly, forward-thinking construction business.

Wage: £16,640 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age (National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices).

Training course: Information communications technician (level 3)

Hours: Monday to Friday. 40 hours a week

Start date: Thursday 1 October 2026

Duration: 1 year 10 months

What you'll do at work:

  • Respond to IT requests by phone, email, Teams and the ticketing system.
  • Log and resolve first-line incidents, escalating more complex issues when needed.
  • Set up laptops, monitors and mobile phones.
  • Support Intune enrolment, Autopilot builds, Microsoft 365, Windows, printers, Wi-Fi, VPNs and user accounts.
  • Maintain asset records and support starter and leaver processes.
  • Contribute to IT projects and follow company security policies.

Training course: Information communications technician (level 3)

What you'll learn:

Course contents include interpreting and prioritising customer requirements, fault finding and rectification, continuous professional development, operating safely and securely, communication with stakeholders, managing workload, completing documentation, software upgrades, diagnosing IT support tasks, providing remote/F2F support, maintaining a safe working environment, identifying and scoping solutions, testing and evaluating system performance, escalating problems, basic scripting (PowerShell, Linux), routine maintenance across systems, applying security measures, using cabling or connectors equipment, testing and evaluating network environments, monitoring performance and usage of a network, deploying applications, setting up storage and data access, and establishing digital communication systems.

Training schedule:

Information Communications Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard. This work-based programme includes quarterly online block weeks, weekly off-the-job training and monthly coaching sessions. The apprentice will have a workplace mentor and will complete an end-point assessment. Knowledge areas include hardware and networking, software and security, and ICT administration.

Other requirements:

The role requires a full UK driving licence. Travel between offices and sites may be required. The apprentice must be comfortable working in both office and construction-site environments. The role involves responsibility for the secure handling of company data and equipment. Some previous experience in IT support, a service desk, apprenticeship, placement or a similar role.
