Trainee Management Accountant

Role Purpose
We are looking for a motivated Trainee Management Accountant to join our finance team at our manufacturing site in Hull. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the start of their finance career who is keen to develop strong management accounting, commercial finance, and manufacturing finance experience while being supported through the CIMA qualification.
The successful candidate will support the preparation of management accounts, financial reporting, cost analysis, and operational performance reporting, working closely with finance, operations, procurement, and production teams to help the business understand performance and make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Support the production of financial reporting packs, including commentary on key movements, variances, and performance trends.
- Help analyse manufacturing costs, including materials, labour, overheads, waste, yields, and production efficiencies.
- Work with production and operations teams to understand factory performance and provide useful financial insight.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes by gathering data, preparing schedules, and analysing actual performance against plan.
- Assist with stock reporting, stocktakes, inventory reconciliations, and review of stock adjustments.
- Help maintain accurate costings, bills of materials, and product margin analysis.
- Support purchase order, invoice, and supplier query processes where required.
- Prepare ad hoc analysis to support operational and commercial decision-making.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation, including schedules and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting accuracy, and internal controls.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure finance deadlines are met.

CIMA Study Support
The company will provide support for the CIMA qualification, including agreed study leave, exam support, and mentoring from experienced finance colleagues. The role is designed to help the successful candidate apply their studies in a practical manufacturing environment and progress towards becoming a qualified management accountant.
Skills and Experience Required
- Studying towards, or keen to begin, the CIMA qualification.
- Previous experience in an accounts assistant, finance assistant, graduate finance, or similar role is desirable.
- Strong numerical ability and attention to detail.
- Good Excel skills, with willingness to develop further analytical and reporting capability.
- A logical approach to problem-solving and the ability to work with financial and non-financial information.
- Good communication skills, with confidence to work with colleagues across finance, operations, and production.
- Organised, proactive, and able to manage deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- An interest in food manufacturing, cost control, and operational performance.
