About the Role
Windcat is a leading provider of safe and efficient crew transfer services to the offshore industry, operating at the forefront for over 20 years. With a growing fleet of over 55 Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs), 1 Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), and 1 Multi-Purpose Accommodation Support Vessel (MPASV)—plus several newbuilds under construction—Windcat plays a key role in supporting offshore projects worldwide. You'll join a team dedicated to shaping the future of offshore energy.
As a Trainee CTV Master, you will act as the company representative on board the vessel. Under the direction of the vessel Master, you will transfer wind turbine technicians and other passengers to offshore windfarms and undertake cargo operations. Your duties include ensuring the safety of all personnel on board, conducting regular safety drills and promoting a strong safety culture.
Responsibilities
- Undertake safe and efficient navigation, manoeuvring, and operation of the vessel
- Adhere to the company Safety Management System, ISM code, and applicable shipping rules and regulations
- Complete the annual Master review, plus periodical inspections and maintenance of the vessel and its equipment
- Deliver a professional service from start to finish when transferring technicians and maintain clear, effective communication with all stakeholders
- Undertake on-board administration, recordkeeping, and reporting to the office
- Participate in ongoing training and conduct/assist in emergency drills to ensure preparedness
- Oversee maintenance and upkeep of the vessel, assisting engineers with necessary tasks
- Lead and manage the vessel crew, providing training and guidance as needed
- Follow instructions from the shoreside management team

Experience & Requirements
Previous Experience Required
- Previous experience as a Deckhand on CTVs OR
- Previous experience as a Master on similar-sized vessels

Technical Skills
-Ability to navigate and manoeuvre the vessel safely and efficiently -Knowledge of all practical aspects of daily vessel tasks, including mooring, anchoring, bunkering, and more -Knowledge of routine maintenance and vessel upkeep, including:
- Firefighting equipment
- Life Saving Appliances (LSA) -Experience with maintenance of propulsion systems (diesel engines, generators, ancillary engine systems included) -Ability to operate technical equipment onboard, such as:
- Navigation systems
- Communication devices
- Engine controls

Flexibility & Organisational Expectations
- Willingness to work from any site across the UK or Europe
- Maintenance of good housekeeping (keep vessel clean and organised)
Qualifications & Certification
Mandatory Certificates/Documents
- Master’s Certificate (for vessels <200 GT):
- STCW II/2 or II/3 recognised for small vessel operations
- RYA qualifications are not accepted
- MCA Approved Workboat Stability Course
- GMDSS ROC Radio Ticket
- Right to work in the UK
- Valid passport that allows travel to the UK and EU
STCW Basic Safety Training (must not exceed 4 years)
- Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW A-VI/1-2)
- Elementary First Aid (STCW A-VI/1-3)
- Personal Survival Techniques (STCW A-VI/1-1)
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (STCW A-VI/1-4)
Medical
- ENG1 Seafarer Medical (fitness for lookout duties must be verified Yes)
Additional Requirements
- Non-UK issuance of Certificate of Competency (CoC):
- A British Certificate of Equivalent Competency (CeC) is mandatory
Desirable Certificates/Documents
- GMDSS Grade of Competency (GOC)
- Discharge Book (electronic or physical proof of sea service)
- MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC1)
- Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Training certification
- Current UK driving licence
