About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Community Mental Health Teams in Croydon as a Trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner. This is an Apprenticeship Training Role within Adult Community Mental Health Services and the successful candidates will be expected to study at University College London.
- Duration: One-year fixed term appointment.
- Accreditation: Successful completion of the training programme allows candidates to seek accreditation status through the BPS or BABCP and be eligible to apply for a qualified Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner Post at a Band 5 level.
Responsibilities
- Access to Interventions: Contribute to ensuring adults with severe mental health problems have greater access to psychologically informed interventions.
- Team Collaboration: Work alongside service users, families, carers, and multi-disciplinary team members to coordinate care and support collaborative decision-making about care and treatment.
- Case Management: Deliver general case management as part of a dedicated caseload.
- Intervention Delivery: Deliver a set of wellbeing-focused, psychologically-informed interventions aligned to cognitive-behavioural principles, based on the best evidence available, that address problems often experienced by people with severe mental health problems.
- Clinical Supervision: Work under close clinical skills supervision from an HCPC registered clinical / counselling psychologist, BABCP accredited cognitive behavioural therapist, or Senior MHWP to provide specified psychologically-informed wellbeing-focused interventions, with a level of autonomy matched to level of demonstrated competence and stage of training.

About the Employer
SLaM employs around 5000 staff and serves a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient, and community services. Currently, we provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham, and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich.
