Job Purpose

Based at Clevedon and regularly deployed to Hinkley Point C (HPC), the Trainee NDT Technician will develop practical competency across a range of NDT methods and techniques while supporting safe, compliant inspection operations across the Applus+ energy and industry portfolio. The role also provides an opportunity to gain experience in T&D electrical testing services by supporting Applus+ Power Services colleagues from Spain on UK contracts, assisting the Operations Manager with HSEQ and legal compliance at the Clevedon base, and working across other UK sites as required.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

The roles and responsibilities of the Trainee NDT Technician will include but are not limited to:

NDT Technical Delivery

  • Assist in carrying out NDT activities (LPI, MPI, UT, VI) in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, and client requirements, under the supervision of qualified personnel.
  • Develop and demonstrate competency across NDT methods and techniques, working towards recognised qualification and certification.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of NDT equipment, calibration records, and equipment logs via Paper Trail and associated Applus+ systems.
  • Assist in completing inspection reports accurately and in line with client and regulatory requirements.

Multi-Site Operations

  • Operate primarily from Clevedon with regular deployment to HPC and other UK sites, working alongside experienced NDT personnel, with a willingness to travel and work away from base.
  • Maintain personal competency records, training logs, and site induction documentation relevant to nuclear site access.

Power Services Support

  • Support Applus+ Power Services colleagues from Spain in delivering T&D electrical testing services to UK clients, gaining practical experience in substation and electrical testing environments.
  • Develop a working understanding of LV, MV, and HV electrical testing methods and techniques to support the growth of UK capability in this area.
  • Support the Operations Manager in ensuring visiting colleagues have the on-site support, equipment, and access required to deliver work safely and to schedule.

HSEQ and Legal Compliance

  • Support the Operations Manager in meeting HSEQ and legal compliance obligations at the Clevedon base, including assisting with site audits, inspections, and maintenance of HSEQ documentation.
  • Assist in upkeeping Skill Station competency records on behalf of the Operations Manager, flagging any gaps or concerns promptly.
  • Handle client and company records securely, comply with information security procedures, and report any vulnerability or breach to the Operations Manager promptly.
  • Complete company-assigned training on HSEQ, information security, and data confidentiality as directed.
  • Liaise with colleagues, support functions, and client representatives to ensure smooth execution of work.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment across all locations.

  • CCNSG - Site Safety Passport
  • Commitment to developing a career in NDT and inspection services.
  • GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent); technical or vocational qualifications in engineering or a related discipline are advantageous.
  • High standards of health, safety, and quality.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK, including to nuclear licensed sites, and to work away from base as required.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in an engineering, inspection, or technical environment.
  • Awareness of NDT methods such as LPI, MPI, UT, or RT.
  • Familiarity with nuclear or regulated industrial site environments.
  • Basic understanding of LV, MV, or HV electrical systems.
