The Role

NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, in partnership with Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland), has an exciting opportunity to train an individual to become a registered clinical scientist within the field of Neurophysiology.
The role will be based within paediatrics at the Royal Hospital for children in Glasgow. We provide neurophysiology services to children and adolescents referred from a wide range of specialities from all over the West of Scotland. We perform on average 1500 investigations per year and specialise in long term monitoring both in hospital and at home. We have 2 dedicated EEG videotelemetry beds and 3 Home Video Ambulatory systems, as well as Routine EEG, Ambulatory EEG, an EP/NCV/EMG laptop, and a dedicated networked ICU EEG monitor.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 2:1 BSc Honours science-based degree and a good basic knowledge of routine neurophysiology is an absolute must. This role will comprise of on-the-job training with rotational components to various departments and an academic component which will involve distance learning and block release at a Higher Education Institute in England. This is a 3 year fixed-term funded training post. You are required to be a good team worker and have patient care at the heart of what you do.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

- Location based in Royal Hospital for Children
- Fixed-term Contract for 3 years
- Full-time Position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post are Monday to Friday, Dayshifts
Key Responsibilities
- Routine Video EEG recordings - secondary, tertiary and quaternary referrals.
- Prolonged video EEG recordings - secondary, tertiary and quaternary referrals.
- Ambulatory EEG recordings secondary and tertiary referrals.
- Home Video Ambulatory recordings secondary and tertiary referrals.
- Videotelemetry recordings - secondary, tertiary and quaternary referrals.
- Sleep deprived video EEG recordings secondary, tertiary and quaternary referrals.
- Drug induced sleep video EEG recordings secondary, tertiary and quaternary referrals.
- Multiple Sleep Latency Testing secondary, tertiary and quaternary referrals.
- Portable and emergency video EEG recordings on wards and in Intensive Care Units (ITU), Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), Renal Unit, Oncology Unit, etc.
- There is a large catchment population with referrals from within the West of Scotland and beyond e.g. Ayrshire and Arran, Argyll and Clyde, Dumfries and Galloway, Forth Valley, Greater Glasgow Health Board, Highland, Lanarkshire Tayside, and Western Isles with all outlying clinics and resource centres, including referrals from the community consultants. Supra-regional referrals and quaternary referrals for Multiple sleep latency testing from Scotland, England and the Republic of Ireland.
- Provide a “one-stop” service and fast-track appointment system for the patients from the Neurosciences unit.
- Patients from extreme prematurity to young adults attend for these tests from a wide range of specialties including the regional epilepsy service, and also those suffering from a wide range of other neurological disorders. The Royal Hospital for Children hosts the Scottish Paediatric Renal Transplant centre, unique Oncology and Cardiac units who frequently refer patients for investigation. Community consultants and psychiatric referrals are also received in addition to patients suffering from non-epileptic events.
- Critically ill patients are seen both in the department and also on wards on this site. Portable/Emergency recordings on patients with a variety of neurological/medical problems, such as patients suffering from acute and chronic infective processes, e.g. meningitis, encephalitis, encephalopathy, metabolic disorders, stroke, coma or trauma.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to Do the Job
Essential
- BSc Honours degree in a relevant science subject. Minimum 2:1 classification
- Higher/National 5 English and maths
- Experience of working with the public
- Ability to work at masters level
Desirable
- Physiology & sports science related degree
- Experience of working in a clinical/healthcare and patient facing environment
- Evidence of work experience in a neurophysiology department
