Learn how a business actually runs by working across its operations, not by reading about it.

This Trainee Operations Manager role at Sage is built for someone who wants real responsibility for people, performance, and day-to-day delivery, and who wants to earn their progression rather than wait for it.

Sage is going through a period of expansion in Birmingham, which is exactly why this position exists. You will start by getting visible across the operation, spending time in each part of the business so you understand how the commercial, client, and people functions connect. From there, you take on more responsibility as you show you are ready for it. Progression here is based on merit and results, not time served.

About Sage

Sage works with recognised brands to grow their customer base and market presence through well-run sales and marketing campaigns. The Birmingham office is central and easy to reach across the West Midlands, which matters in a role where being present and available is part of the job.

Our approach to developing people is straightforward. We coach, we give honest feedback, and we open doors for those who take the opportunity seriously. As we expand, the people who make themselves useful across the business are the ones who move into leadership.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you will learn

Your early months focus on the commercial groundwork:

  • How sales and customer acquisition work in practice
  • Building and managing client relationships
  • Running campaigns and reading their performance
  • The thinking behind commercial decisions
  • Working within a team and supporting its results

As you find your feet, you will move into the areas that shape a manager:

  • Coaching and supporting other team members
  • Recruitment and bringing new people on board
  • Leading a team and holding standards
  • Managing campaigns end to end
  • Planning and running daily operations
  • Contributing to business development and growth

The point is breadth. You will understand how the parts of the business fit together rather than being boxed into one function.

Who we are looking for

You do not need management experience. What matters more is attitude and potential. This suits someone who is:

  • Ambitious and genuinely interested in progression
  • Comfortable talking to a range of people
  • Curious about how businesses make money
  • Organised and willing to take responsibility
  • Steady when things get busy and focused on results
  • Open to feedback and quick to act on it

Experience in sales, retail, hospitality, customer service, or any people-facing role can help, but it is not a requirement. Willingness to learn and be visible counts for more.

Development and opportunities

You will get practical, on-the-job training backed by regular one-to-one mentoring and weekly sessions on business and leadership. Alongside that, there are networking events, industry conferences, business development trips, and company events where you build relationships across the sector.

As your results and experience grow, so does your remit, moving into team management, campaign work, and wider operations. During this expansion, that path is a real one, not a promise made to fill a vacancy.

How to apply

If you want to understand how a business works from the inside, develop commercially, and build towards a genuine management role, apply now. Send your application through LinkedIn, and we will be in touch about the next stage.
