Trainee Purchasing Assistant

Ikonic has distribution centres in the UK (Manchester) and Germany (Frankfurt), supplying many varied brands and products, such as Dell, HP & Lenovo.
What We Are Looking For:
You will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day purchasing operations of the business. Responsible for placing and managing a high volume of B2B & stock orders. Assisting in maintaining the stock database, you will be responsible for handling large amounts of data. With further development into supporting new supplier and product development.
We are looking for someone with the right aptitude who is comfortable managing data and information, can work in a fast-paced, energetic environment, with strict attention to detail.
You will be part of a new & growing department within Ikonic, which gives a fantastic opportunity to be an influence in the future success of this department.
Role Details:
- Type: Full Time, Permanent
- Location: Office-based role, (Bury Manchester UK)
- Working hours: (8.00am–5.00pm)
Role Responsibilities:
- Placing B2B orders throughout the day from available stock
- Managing orders from placement through to delivery
- Liaising with suppliers to ensure timely dispatch
- Tracking shipments and obtaining accurate tracking information
- Verifying order details to ensure accuracy
- Updating internal systems with correct ETAs and order statuses
- Managing supplier stock lists, uploading & maintaining them within the internal database
- Supporting the onboarding of new suppliers, including setting up products and processes
- Assisting with stock management, including monitoring stock levels and availability
- Monitoring competitor and market pricing to ensure products are priced correctly and competitively
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers
- Working with the warehouse, proactively resolving any issues with stock
- Liaising & supporting the sales force, communicating delivery times, delays with orders, and other problem-solving / product advice.

Role Requirements – Purchasing Assistant:
- Ideal (but not 100% necessary for the right candidate);
- Education: Degree-educated (BSc/BA). Degrees in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Supply Chain, and Computer Science are highly desirable, but we welcome graduates from any discipline who can demonstrate an exceptional aptitude for Excel and numbers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel & Outlook
- Extremely detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy
- Good maths and numerical ability
- Strong database, spreadsheet, and data management skills
- Ability to work at speed, managing multiple tasks and remaining accurate under pressure
- Good communication skills, confident and professional when dealing with external partners
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable working in an office-based, computer-focused role
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- Team player with a positive attitude
- Commercially aware with an interest in stock, pricing, and sales performance
- Eager to learn and develop within a buying role
