Trainee Recruitment Consultant | City of London

£27,000 base + uncapped commission | Realistic £45k OTE in year one

Most people join a recruitment business. You'd be joining one while it's still being built. Our client is a technology recruitment firm set up by three consultants from one of the world's largest staffing businesses. They place software engineers, quants, and data and cloud specialists into hedge funds, asset managers, investment banks, and fintechs across the UK, US, and APAC.

Six people today. Ten by the end of 2026. They want someone who's one of the first ten.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'd do

  • Own a technology market end to end and know it better than the people hiring in it
  • Approach engineers and technologists who aren't looking, and give them a reason to listen
  • Build long-term relationships with hiring managers at some of the most respected firms in finance
  • Sit in on client calls from month one, and run your own desk sooner than you'd expect

What you'd get

  • Promotion in 6–9 months — that's the pace, and there are people already there who've done it
  • Uncapped commission from your first placement, with £45k OTE realistic in year one
  • Full training from three founders who built desks at the top of the market
