Start Your Career in Recruitment with Kinetic
Are you ambitious, confident with people and looking for a career where your progression and earning potential can grow with your performance? Kinetic Recruitment has been recruiting within Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial markets for over 40 years, and we're looking for a Trainee Recruitment Consultant to join our established North-East team in Newcastle.
You don't need previous recruitment experience, as we'll provide a structured training and development programme. However, if you already have some recruitment or resourcing experience and are ready to take the next step towards becoming a Recruitment Consultant, we'd be particularly interested in hearing from you.
You'll start by learning recruitment from the candidate side of the business, working alongside experienced Consultants and supporting a stable, long-term client base across the North-East. As your knowledge and confidence develop, you'll gradually move into client relationships, account management and business development, with the aim of becoming a fully-fledged 360 Recruitment Consultant managing your own clients, candidates and recruitment desk.
Your Training & Development
We don't expect you to arrive knowing how to be a Recruitment Consultant - that's what we'll teach you. Your development will combine practical, on-the-job training from experienced recruiters with a structured training programme delivered in conjunction with the Level 3 Recruiter Apprenticeship programme. You'll learn how to:
- Find, attract and engage candidates
- Interview and assess candidates effectively
- Match candidates to temporary and permanent vacancies
- Build and manage candidate relationships
- Understand our Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial markets
- Understand our clients, their businesses and recruitment requirements
- Develop commercial awareness and understand recruitment margins
- Build confidence communicating with clients
- Conduct business development and sales activity
- Develop new and existing client relationships
- Negotiate rates and terms
- Manage vacancies from initial instruction through to successful placement
- Ultimately build and manage your own recruitment desk
You'll have experienced people around you throughout that journey, helping you develop both your recruitment knowledge and commercial skills.
What You'll Be Doing Initially
Your first stage will focus predominantly on candidate recruitment and resourcing, giving you a strong grounding in the fundamentals of recruitment. You'll:
- Search for candidates using job boards, our database, referrals and social media
- Speak with and interview prospective candidates
- Build candidate pipelines for regularly recruited skills
- Match candidates to temporary and permanent vacancies
- Develop relationships with candidates and temporary workers
- Support experienced Consultants in filling vacancies for established clients
- Learn about our clients, their sites and the people they recruit
- Maintain accurate candidate records and compliance information

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
As you develop, you'll take on increasing responsibility for client communication and commercial activity as you work towards managing your own recruitment desk.
Who Are We Looking For?
We're more interested in your potential, attitude and ambition than your current job title. You may already be working as a Recruitment Resourcer and feel ready to develop the client-facing and commercial skills required to become a Consultant. Alternatively, you could be a graduate or college leaver looking for your first commercial career, or already working in customer service, sales, hospitality, retail, account management or another people-focused environment.
We'd particularly like to meet someone who is:
- Confident communicating with different types of people
- Naturally curious and comfortable asking questions
- Organised and able to manage competing priorities
- Commercially minded
- Proactive and prepared to take the initiative
- Resilient and able to deal positively with setbacks
- Motivated by achieving results
- Keen to learn and develop
- Comfortable working as part of a team
You must hold a full driving licence and be able to drive, as you'll increasingly visit client sites as your role develops.
Salary, Bonus & Working Arrangements
- Starting salary £25,500
- Bonus opportunity as you develop within the role
- Newcastle based
- Hybrid working available, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office
- Normal working hours of 8.30am-5.00pm, with flexibility available
- Full driving licence required
- Laptop and mobile phone provided
- Free onsite parking
Benefits
We want people to build a long-term career with Kinetic, so our benefits develop with your service.
From joining:
- 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
- An additional day off for your birthday
- Team and company social events
- Access to training and development relevant to your role
After 3 months:
- Auto-enrolment into our pension scheme - currently 5% employee contribution and 3% from Kinetic
Following successful completion of your 6-month probation:
- You become a member of the Kinetic Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) - when Kinetic is successful and meets its company targets, one third of net profits are distributed equally amongst all Employee Owners in April each year
- £200 annual Personal Development & Well-being Allowance, which can be used towards hobbies and interests outside of work
After 12 months:
- Private Health Scheme (taxable benefit; personal contribution may be required)
- Enhanced Company Pension Scheme - Kinetic contributes 6% when you contribute 3%, together with access to financial advisers
- Option to join the Bupa Healthcare Cash Plan, helping towards costs such as optical and dental treatment
- Death in Service / Life Assurance
