Responsibilities

Interested in how banks are regulated and held accountable?

Are you curious about how financial institutions operate within a highly regulated environment? Do you have an interest in UK banking regulation, governance and the rules that help maintain trust in the financial system?

We're looking for a motivated and inquisitive Trainee to join our Regulatory & Compliance Oversight team. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a specialist compliance function, working on regulatory governance, compliance risk management, regulatory change and the UK's Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR).

What You'll Be Doing

As a Trainee, you'll gain exposure to a wide range of regulatory and governance activities, including:

  • Monitoring and analysing regulatory developments from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and other industry bodies.
  • Supporting projects relating to regulatory change and implementation.
  • Assisting with the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR) and other regulatory governance obligations.
  • Helping coordinate governance meetings and committees, including preparing materials and tracking actions.
  • Supporting compliance risk assessments, reporting and management information.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of policies, procedures and compliance documentation.
  • Contributing to training and awareness initiatives across the business.
  • Working with a variety of stakeholders across business and support functions.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • A genuine interest in UK banking regulation, financial services and regulatory governance.
  • Curiosity about how regulators oversee financial institutions and hold individuals accountable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyse information and identify key themes.
  • Professional, reliable and proactive approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent in Law, Business, Economics, Finance, Politics or a related discipline.
  • Previous internship, placement or work experience in financial services or a professional environment.
  • Awareness of the UK's Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR).
  • Understanding of the role of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).
  • Interest in regulatory developments, accountability frameworks and banking governance.
