Newsquest Scotland is seeking an ambitious trainee reporter to join our team based in Dunfermline.

Since 1859, the Dunfermline Press has been setting the news agenda in West Fife. An opportunity has now arisen for a dedicated reporter to join the company’s flagship Fife title and also contribute to the continued success of its sister titles, the Central Fife Times and the Alloa Advertiser.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking an ambitious, digitally skilled and versatile journalist to unearth the best breaking news, features, leisure and trending stories from an incredibly lively patch.

A big part of the job will be immersing yourself in social media, developing relationships and understanding what matters to the community.

We want you to tell the stories our audiences care about – from championing the best of our local communities to covering crime and local business, food and drink, and entertainment. You’ll also ask the questions that hold power to account.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Ideally, you will be an outstanding trainee with NCTJ preliminary qualifications and 100wpm shorthand. If you have a journalism degree that is not NCTJ-accredited, we will provide the relevant additional training to become a fully NCTJ-qualified journalist.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
