Job Role: Social Welfare Law Benefits Caseworker

Salary: £25,844 - £31,076

Location: Hybrid - Home Working with frequent community-based work at outreach venues and home visits across Greater Manchester

Hours: 35 hours per week

Closing date: 04/09/2026


We’re an ambitious charity determined to deliver quality services to our communities. Each year we improve the lives of tens of thousands of local people from across Stockport, Oldham, Rochdale and Trafford by sharing information and offering advice, support and guidance.

Working alongside trusted partners, the post will involve:

  • Undergoing training to develop knowledge, skills and experience relating to welfare benefits.
  • Managing and maintaining a client caseload once training is completed.
  • Advising and assisting clients to secure full benefit entitlements, maximise income, identify associated debts and housing issues, and refer appropriately.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders, including health professionals, to enhance service quality.
  • Maintaining accurate records of client work using our case management system.

We are looking for a highly-driven individual who has a can-do attitude, working on an exciting new project.

The caseworker will primarily be working with those impacted by cancer and their families. The role will involve promoting the service and network building across Greater Manchester.

Essential criteria

  • Ability to research and interpret complex information and communicate this.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – able to listen sensitively and explain clearly.
  • Confidence in using digital tools and case management systems to manage workload.
  • Organised, self-motivated, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a dispersed team.
  • Willing and able to travel across Greater Manchester to fulfil outreach and rota commitments.

What we’d like you to have:

  • Experience of working on the phone or face to face, speaking to customers/clients, providing excellent customer service using a variety of digital communication channels with customers/clients.
  • An understanding and commitment to fairness and the positive impact that diversity and inclusion brings to this role and to service delivery in the charity sector.
  • Ability to commit to and work within our values, aims, principles and policies in which equity and diversity is embedded throughout.
  • A commitment to continually developing yourself professionally, and support the wider team’s development as well.
  • A willingness and ability to work unsocial hours on occasion (including weekends), with travel across the North West and other parts of the country.
  • Proven ability to keep up to date with technology and take individual responsibility for learning new technologies.
