Role Description
The Trainee Underwriter role is a full-time, on-site position based in Nottingham. In this role, the individual will review and assess finance applications for motor vehicles and personal loans, gathering and verifying information to support responsible lending decisions.

- Analysing customer affordability
- Checking documentation
- Applying underwriting guidelines under supervision
- Communicating with customers and internal teams to clarify details, explain decisions, and ensure a smooth customer journey
- Maintaining accurate records
- Adhering to regulatory and company policies
- Continuously developing underwriting knowledge through training and feedback
Qualifications
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to assess customer affordability and risk
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with customers and colleagues in a clear and professional manner
- Attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing documentation and entering data into systems
- Ability to learn and apply underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal procedures
- Good time management and organisational skills to handle multiple cases and meet deadlines
- Comfort with using computer systems and basic office software; experience with finance or CRM systems is an advantage
- Positive, customer-focused mindset aligned with a people-centric culture, with a commitment to ethical and responsible lending
- Prior experience in finance, customer service, or administrative roles is beneficial but not essential
- Educated to a reasonable standard (e.g., secondary education or equivalent); further qualifications in finance, business, or related fields are a plus
