Description
Here at Marlborough Highways we are on the look out for a Training Coordinator to join our Learning and Development team. We are open to exploring both full time and part time options for the right candidate.
The Training Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting training and competency requirements across the business, ensuring employees and subcontractors have the appropriate qualifications, certifications and skills required for their roles.
The role maintains accurate training records, monitors certification expiry dates, identifies compliance and skills gaps, and coordinates both internal and external training to ensure requirements are addressed proactively. Working closely with their Learning and Development team, internal managers, supervisors, operational teams and external training providers, the Training Coordinator supports the delivery of the company’s training plan and ensures ongoing compliance with industry, client and accreditation requirements.
The role also supports the continuous improvement of training processes and systems, including the development of training needs analysis, management of CITB grants and funding opportunities, and provision of training evidence for internal and external audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining training matrix for both direct and sub-contractor staff, including operational and non-operational roles
- Managing in-house training bookings for the L&D team – Covering compliance, HR and developmental training for both operational and non-operational staff.
- Send supervisors email notifications on expiring tickets 3 months prior to the ticket expiry and book refresher training when required.
- Creating and sending joining instructions to training attendees
- Liaising with staff and external training providers in booking training, including Driver CPC and FORS NVQs, Touch screen tests, and applying CSCS cards for the staff (managers, supervisors, site crew).
- Support company inductions by verifying compliance training tickets held by new starters with the training need analysis matrix and update supervisors/managers on any gaps.
- Administrative work including uploading tickets, raising POs, managing diary/calendar invites and booking meeting rooms
- Ensure training agreements are signed and returned by delegates prior to attending any training.
- Assist accounts and HR department in recovering training costs.
- Applying for CITB levy, grants, and claims, identifying potential fundings.
- Review PDRs to identify departmental-specific and individual training needs
- Review training needs analysis matrix, undertake compliance training gap analysis and ensure adherence across the business.
- Supports various departments in audits (ISO, HERS, CITB, etc.)
- Administrative support to the wider L&D function

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple bookings, deadlines and priorities.
- Confident communicating and building strong working relationships with employees, managers, supervisors and external training providers.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly when checking qualifications, certificates and compliance documentation.
- Good IT skills, including strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook and other record-management systems.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of the training process and proactively follow up outstanding actions.
- Ability to handle confidential employee information appropriately.
- Previous experience in a training coordination, training administration, compliance or similar role.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within the construction, highways, utilities, infrastructure or a similarly regulated industry.
- Previous experience with Driver CPC and FORS training requirements
- Knowledge of CITB, including levy, grants and training-related funding opportunities.
- Understanding of National Highways Sector Schemes and associated training/competency requirements.
- Experience working with learning, HR or compliance management systems and transferring training records between systems.
- Understanding of common construction/highways training requirements such as First Aid, Lantra, CAT & Genny, Vehicle Marshal, Manual Handling and Abrasive Wheels.
