Training & Development Manager

Location: Redditch, Worcestershire
Type: Full Time | Permanent
Salary: £35,000-£40,000 per annum
Work Schedule: 4 day working week


We are seeking an experienced and proactive Training & Development Manager to lead and develop our learning and development function. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the training strategy of a growing business, ensuring employees have the skills, knowledge, and development opportunities needed to succeed.

Working closely with managers across the business, you will design, implement, and continuously improve training programmes that support operational excellence, employee engagement, and long-term workforce development.

Training & Development Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the company induction programme for all new starters.
  • Develop and implement the organisation's training and development strategy.
  • Conduct training needs analyses across departments.
  • Create and maintain individual training and development plans for employees.
  • Coordinate apprenticeship programmes and liaise with external training providers.
  • Design and deliver leadership and management development programmes.
  • Develop and maintain departmental skills matrices.
  • Carry out competency assessments and identify development requirements.
  • Support succession planning by identifying and developing future talent.
  • Lead and manage the Performance Development Review (PDR) process.
  • Monitor training compliance, skills gaps, and competency levels.
  • Produce and analyse training KPIs, skills scores, and development metrics.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure training records remain accurate and compliant.
  • Work collaboratively with department managers to build a culture of continuous learning.

The successful Training & Development Manager

We're looking for someone who is passionate about developing people and has the experience to build effective learning programmes that make a measurable impact.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience as a Training & Development Manager, Learning & Development Manager, HR Manager with training responsibilities, or an NVQ Assessor.
  • A recognised assessor qualification (A1, D32/D33, TAQA, CAVA or equivalent) is desirable.
  • Experience developing training strategies and learning frameworks.
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship standards and workforce development.
  • Experience conducting training needs analysis and competency assessments.
  • Strong understanding of performance management and PDR processes.
  • Experience creating skills matrices and succession planning frameworks.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience reporting on training KPIs and skills metrics.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and learning management or HR systems.
