The Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Training Officer to join our team, based primarily at AWLQ’s Ipswich Rehoming Centre.
Following recent organisational changes, this role will support the delivery of a consistent and practical approach to induction, onboarding and workplace training at Ipswich. Working closely with the Training Coordinator, site leadership and operational teams, the Training Officer will help ensure that new and existing team members have the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to perform their roles safely, effectively and in accordance with AWLQ’s policies, procedures and organisational standards.
This is a hands-on role combining training delivery, competency assessment and training administration. The successful applicant will work alongside employees and volunteers in operational environments, providing practical guidance and reinforcing consistent and safe ways of working.
While the position will be based primarily at Ipswich, some travel to other AWLQ locations across South East Queensland may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate site induction, onboarding and workplace training for new and existing employees and volunteers.
- Deliver practical, hands-on training within operational environments.
- Support the assessment and documentation of workplace competencies.
- Work with the Training Coordinator and site leaders to identify and respond to training needs.
- Reinforce consistent practices aligned with AWLQ policies, procedures, safety requirements and organisational standards.
- Maintain accurate training records and assist with training administration and reporting.
- Provide learners with constructive feedback, guidance and ongoing support.
- Assist with the review and continuous improvement of training resources and processes.
- Support training activities at other AWLQ locations when required.

What You’ll Bring
- Experience delivering training, coaching or facilitating learning in a workplace environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to engage and support learners with different levels of experience, capability and confidence.
- Confidence delivering practical training and providing constructive feedback.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently, use initiative and manage competing priorities.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and other workplace systems.
- A current Driver Licence and willingness to travel between AWLQ locations when required.
- A commitment to AWLQ’s values, animal welfare and creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
Desirable
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in animal welfare, veterinary services or a related sector.
- Experience supporting or training volunteers.
- Experience facilitating both face-to-face and practical workplace training.
- Knowledge of AWLQ’s operational practices, systems and procedures.
