The Role

The Transaction Monitoring Officer will play a dual role within the team. First, they will support the management and mitigation of AML risk across all transaction monitoring activities, reporting directly to the Head of Department. Second, they will ensure the timely identification, review, and escalation of any potentially suspicious transactions.

The role also involves analysing information received from Correspondent and Respondent Banks, monitoring related transaction activity, and addressing any AML or economic sanctions alerts that arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and monitor transactions in line with bank policy, escalating potential matches as required
  • Manage and clear alerts on SWIFT TSS/SAS systems in a timely manner
  • Identify, investigate, and monitor suspicious transactions and activity
  • Prepare and submit SARs to the MLRO in line with internal guidelines
  • Conduct detailed AML and sanctions investigations using transactional and customer data
  • Liaise with internal teams and correspondent banks to support investigations and compliance queries
  • Stay up to date with AML, CTF, and sanctions regulations, typologies, and emerging financial crime trends
  • Support AML and sanctions compliance training, including onboarding sessions
  • Produce monthly and quarterly AML reports for governance committees

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 3 years’ transaction monitoring experience within a retail bank or retail-focused financial services firm
  • Relevant qualifications (Law, AML, Client Onboarding) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of AML laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Experience conducting investigations and preparing regulatory reports
  • Solid understanding of UK/EU money laundering regulations and financial markets
