About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Quantexa Scenario Engineer to support the design, development, testing and optimisation of Transaction Monitoring and Financial Crime detection scenarios within a major Financial Crime Transformation programme.

This role is focused on the engineering, configuration, and enhancement of transaction monitoring scenarios across the Quantexa platform. The successful candidate will combine strong Financial Crime domain expertise with hands-on technical capabilities, including Python development, data analysis, and scenario performance testing. You will work closely with Financial Crime SMEs, Compliance, Data Engineering, and Technology teams to deliver robust, scalable, and effective monitoring solutions that meet both regulatory requirements and business risk objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, develop, and enhance Transaction Monitoring scenarios within the Quantexa platform.
  • Engineer and implement risk-based detection rules, thresholds, scoring methodologies, and segmentation frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain scenario logic to identify suspicious activity patterns across customers, accounts, and transactions.
  • Perform hands-on scenario testing and analysis using Python, SQL, and analytical tools to evaluate effectiveness and identify optimisation opportunities.
  • Conduct: Back-testing, Forward-testing, Threshold calibration, Sensitivity analysis, Scenario benchmarking, Alert quality assessments
  • Build Python-based analysis, validation, and testing frameworks to support scenario development and performance monitoring.
  • Analyse large data sets to identify trends, anomalies, behavioural patterns, and monitoring gaps.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to define, map, and validate data requirements supporting financial crime detection.
  • Translate Financial Crime and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions and scenario configurations.
  • Support end-to-end delivery of scenario changes through development, testing, UAT, deployment, and post-implementation validation.
  • Contribute to model and scenario governance activities, including documentation, audit support, and regulatory reviews.
  • Optimise alert volumes while maintaining effective suspicious activity detection and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with AML, Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Technology stakeholders to continuously improve monitoring effectiveness.
  • Support data lineage, data quality, and data controls initiatives that underpin transaction monitoring capabilities.
  • Provide subject matter expertise across AML, KYC, CDD, EDD, Sanctions Screening, and Suspicious Activity Monitoring.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience designing, developing, and implementing Transaction Monitoring scenarios within Quantexa.
  • Proven experience working as a Scenario Engineer, Detection Engineer, Financial Crime Technology Consultant, or Transaction Monitoring SME.
  • Hands-on Python development experience for:
    • Data analysis
    • Scenario testing
    • Performance validation
    • Threshold optimisation
    • Statistical analysis
    • Automated testing and reporting
  • Strong SQL skills and experience analysing large transactional datasets.
  • Experience developing and tuning:
    • Transaction Monitoring Scenarios
    • Detection Rules
    • Risk Scoring Methodologies
    • Segmentation Frameworks
    • Alerting Logic
  • Experience conducting back-testing, threshold analysis, sensitivity testing, and scenario effectiveness assessments.
  • Strong understanding of Financial Crime controls and AML typologies.
  • Knowledge of model and scenario governance frameworks and regulatory expectations.
  • Experience working with complex data models, data integration processes, and data pipelines.
  • Ability to translate business and regulatory requirements into technical solution designs.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering teams through build, testing, deployment, and production support lifecycles.
  • Strong knowledge of AML regulations, CDD, EDD, Sanctions, PEP Screening, and SAR reporting obligations.
  • Experience delivering solutions within large-scale Financial Crime Transformation programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative abilities.
  • Experience working within complex Banking, Financial Services, or Payments environments
  • Experience with Quantexa Decision Intelligence Platform.
  • Knowledge of Spark, PySpark, Scala, or big data technologies.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and anomaly detection models.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and software engineering best practices.
  • Experience supporting regulatory remediation or Financial Crime enhancement programmes.
