Glasgow or Edinburgh | Up to £85,000 + Benefits | Hybrid & Flexible Working

If you’re an experienced tax professional who enjoys the technical side of tax but wants to get much closer to deals, businesses and commercial decision-making, this is an opportunity worth considering.

We are working with a leading professional services firm looking to strengthen its growing Transaction Tax team. The role offers exposure to a broad range of transactions, typically within the £10m–£100m mid-market, working with private equity houses, acquisitive corporates, management teams, lawyers and other deal advisers.

This isn’t a narrow due diligence role. You’ll work across the transaction lifecycle, providing buy-side and sell-side tax due diligence, transaction advice and tax structuring, while considering the wider commercial implications of the deal.

The Opportunity

One week you could be advising on a private equity acquisition, the next a corporate disposal or working alongside lawyers and other advisers on the structure of a transaction.

The client base is exceptionally varied, giving you exposure to businesses across numerous sectors and, importantly, an opportunity to understand how businesses operate, make money and create value. The wider team works across everything from technology and gaming through to healthcare, travel and retail.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You’ll gain exposure to areas including:

  • Buy-side and sell-side transactions
  • Private equity and corporate M&A
  • Tax due diligence and transaction risk
  • Acquisition and disposal structuring
  • Reviewing transaction models, funds flows and legal documentation
  • Working alongside Corporate Finance, Financial Due Diligence and SPA specialists
  • Wider tax considerations including VAT, employment taxes, transfer pricing, stamp taxes and other specialist areas, drawing on subject-matter experts where required
  • Direct interaction with law firms, PE investors, corporate clients and intermediaries
  • Business development and the opportunity to develop your own professional network

At this level, you’ll be trusted with genuine responsibility. That includes leading client discussions and due diligence meetings, reviewing work, presenting findings, managing projects and helping develop more junior members of the team.

Why Make the Move?

For someone currently working predominantly in corporate tax compliance or a mixed compliance/advisory role, this can be a significant step towards becoming a more rounded and commercially focused tax adviser.

You’ll see businesses at pivotal moments in their development and gain an understanding of valuation, funding, transaction structures, commercial risk and the legal mechanics of deals. It can also provide an excellent longer-term bridge into an in-house tax or commercially focused role for someone who ultimately decides that partnership in practice isn't their end goal. Equally, if you want to remain in professional services, you'll be joining a growing team with a strong pipeline and considerable scope to increase your responsibility as the practice develops.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • Qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA, ACA) or Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA)
  • An Associate Director / Senior Manager, or strong Manager who is ready to make the step up.
  • Strong grounding in UK corporate tax and, crucially, some genuine transaction/deals experience.
  • Proven experience in client handling and project management, building and sustaining relationships

Given the nature of transaction work, flexibility is important. Deals don't always operate to a predictable timetable, and there will be periods where deadlines require additional intensity. In return, the firm offers hybrid and flexible working and recognises the importance of maintaining balance outside those transaction-driven periods.
