Are you organised, accurate and looking to develop your career within finance?
We are looking for a Transactional Finance Officer to join our Finance team and play an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority.
Reporting to the Chief Accountant, you will work as part of a two-person peer team, sharing responsibility for a range of transactional finance activities and ensuring that payments, invoices and financial transactions are processed accurately, efficiently and on time.
This is a varied role that will give you exposure to accounts payable, supplier payments, sales invoicing, bank reconciliations, procurement cards, grant claims, VAT checks and financial reporting.
You will also work closely with internal budget holders and external suppliers, responding to queries and helping to ensure our financial processes operate effectively and in line with the Authority’s policies.
As you develop your knowledge of our accounts payable processes and systems, you will also support the training of new requisitioners across the Combined Authority.
What you’ll be doing
As Our Transactional Finance Officer, Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Accurately and efficiently processing invoices and grant claims through the Authority’s finance system.
- Processing supplier payments and creating payment runs for authorisation through the Authority’s banking system.
- Ensuring all suppliers are correctly set up on the finance system.
We are looking for someone who is methodical, organised and able to work accurately in a busy environment.
You will need to be confident working with financial information and spreadsheets, while also having the communication skills to deal effectively with colleagues, budget holders and external customers.

You Will Bring
- Experience of transactional processing and knowledge or understanding of payment processes.
- Extensive practical experience of relevant spreadsheet applications.
- Experience of working in a customer-facing role within a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to prioritise competing tasks and meet service payment requirements.
You will also have 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths, and either be working towards an AAT or equivalent qualification, be willing to undertake training towards such a qualification, or have relevant finance officer experience.
It Would Be Advantageous If You Also Have
- Experience using Unit4 ERP.
- Experience of account reconciliation within a finance environment.
- Experience checking grant claims.
- Experience working within a peer team and effectively sharing a single workload.
- Basic knowledge of VAT categories, including standard, reduced, nil and zero-rated VAT.
- Knowledge of local government finance.
- A Level, BTEC National or equivalent qualification.

📍 Working arrangements
Due to the customer-facing nature of this role, there may be restrictions on agile working arrangements, particularly flexible hours, to ensure reasonable coverage of normal UK working hours.
Regular Attendance At Pathfinder House Is Required.
