Transactional Risk Claims Manager — EMEA
London, Hybrid
We’ve been retained by an international risk manager looking to appoint a Transactional Risk Claims Manager to its London based claims team. The team is collaborative and covers a broad spread of Financial Lines classes. This seat, however, is firmly focused on transactional risk: warranty & indemnity (W&I), tax liability and contingent risk claims across the EMEA region.
This is a role for a lawyer who wants to stay close to deals long after they've signed - it is not a litigation seat. You will sit between policyholder and carrier, building the case for the claim and steering both sides towards an agreed resolution. W&I notifications are becoming more frequent and insurers are assessing them more rigorously, so the ability to present a claim clearly, credibly and persuasively has a direct commercial impact on clients.
You will manage a varied caseload and take ownership of each notification from first notice of loss through to settlement. That includes shaping the notification and coordinating the evidence behind it. You will work with insurance markets, clients, placement teams, specialist and network colleagues across the region, underwriters, and external counsel. You will negotiate payment and settlement terms with clients and underwriters, and convene the discussions and meetings needed to keep all parties aligned on a proposed outcome. You will also analyse claims data to establish loss histories for individual clients and portfolios and identify trends that inform future placements. Where claims become contentious, you will work alongside senior advocacy leadership on the strategy to bring them to a conclusion.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
We're keen to speak with qualified lawyers from one of two routes. The first is attorneys with hands-on experience of W&I claims, whether from the insurer, policyholder or coverage side. The second is transactional risk professionals from broking or underwriting, with a legal background, who would like to work with the product from a different angle. You'll bring experience of managing claims through to resolution, a sound working knowledge of how W&I policies respond, and the confidence to open and lead discussions with clients, underwriters, network offices and experts. Strong judgement, clear drafting and a measured negotiating style matter more here than courtroom instincts.
