Our Transfer Station at Northumberland Wharf is a key part of this mission, and we’re looking for a dedicated Transfer Station Operative to join our hardworking team. Role Overview
As a Transfer Station Operative, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, ensuring the smooth and safe handling of household and commercial waste. You’ll work closely with a team of skilled operatives, supporting the day-to-day running of the site and occasionally assisting at the Reuse and Recycling Centre (RRC). Every task you take on helps us deliver an efficient service to the community.
Responsibilities
- Operating machinery and cranes, or learning to do so if you’re new to this area.
- Helping maintain a clean and tidy site.
- Ensuring we meet health and safety standards.
- Preventing complaints from our neighbours.

What We’re Looking For
- A flexible, can-do attitude.

- Previous experience at a Transfer Station or Reuse & Recycling Centre is helpful but not essential—we’ll provide training for the right candidate.
- Commitment to working safely and effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to different tasks.

Shift Pattern
This role involves shift work, including scheduled weekends, so flexibility is key. The shift pattern rotates weekly:
- Early mornings (06:00–14:00)
- Afternoons (14:00–22:00)
- A week that includes Saturday and Sunday shifts (08:00–18:00)
It’s vital that you’re able to arrive on time for these shifts to keep our site operating.
