About The Opportunity

Make a Difference When It Matters Most

Every child deserves to be safe. Every investigation matters. Every action you take can change a life.

We are seeking passionate, resilient and professional Detective Constables to join our Child Protection Investigation Team. This is a unique opportunity to undertake some of the most challenging, rewarding and meaningful work in policing.

As a Child Protection Detective, you will be at the forefront of safeguarding vulnerable children, pursuing offenders and working alongside partner agencies to secure the best outcomes for victims and their families. The impact of your work will be felt not only in the investigations you lead, but in the lives you help protect and rebuild.

Why Choose Child Protection?

Child Protection is one of the most important roles within policing. It offers:

  • The opportunity to make a genuine and lasting difference to the lives of children.
  • Complex and varied investigations that will challenge and develop your investigative skills.
  • A highly skilled, supportive and dedicated team environment.
  • Opportunities to work closely with safeguarding partners and specialist departments.
  • Professional development in specialist investigation, interviewing, safeguarding and risk management.
  • The chance to protect the most vulnerable members of our communities and bring offenders to justice.

The Role

You will investigate a wide range of offences involving children, including:

  • Child abuse and neglect investigations.
  • Serious assaults involving children.
  • Child sexual abuse.
  • Multi-agency safeguarding enquiries.
  • Sudden and unexplained child death

You will manage complex investigations, engage with victims and families, work with partner agencies and prepare high-quality case files for prosecution.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for officers who:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safeguarding and victim care.
  • Are resilient, compassionate and emotionally intelligent.
  • Possess excellent investigative and problem-solving skills.
  • Can work effectively under pressure and make sound decisions.
  • Thrive in a collaborative, multi-agency environment.
  • Have the determination to pursue justice for vulnerable victims.

Whether you are an experienced investigator or looking to develop your detective career further, we want to hear from individuals who are committed to making a real difference. You will be either PIP2 qualified or working towards this.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
