Job Overview

CNWL is committed to delivering high-quality care to service users and carers. Supporting this ambition, the Central Performance, Information and Business Intelligence Department provides timely, accurate insight to inform decision-making, service improvement, and organisational transformation.

As the Trust continues to develop services and improve productivity, there is a growing need for robust analytical support to identify opportunities for improvement while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care.

The postholder will act as the Trust's lead analytical partner for transformation and improvement programmes, working with clinical, operational, and transformation teams to develop evaluation frameworks, assess impact, measure outcomes, and provide actionable insight. They will select analytical approaches appropriate to the needs, complexity, and timescales of each project.

The role will lead the development of a proactive approach to benefits realisation, supporting the evaluation of existing and proposed initiatives. The postholder will adapt methodologies, tools, and processes to ensure effective delivery within a structured demand framework.

The Trust continues to invest in digital and business intelligence capabilities. The postholder will maximise the value of these technologies, develop innovative analytical solutions, strengthen benchmarking and insight generation, and support CNWL's ambition to be a leader in the use of data to drive improvement.

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose

To support the delivery of analytical services that inform service redesign, impact measurement, and improvement, using modern analytical tools, techniques, and benchmarking approaches.

  • Lead the development and delivery of high-quality analytical insight to support the Trust's transformation, improvement, and productivity programmes through evidence-based evaluation and recommendations.
  • Work in partnership with clinical, operational, and transformation teams to develop evaluation approaches, establish baselines, and assess the impact and benefits of service improvement initiatives.
  • Provide analytical leadership by identifying opportunities for improvement, monitoring emerging trends, and supporting data-driven decision-making across the Trust.
  • Apply a pragmatic and proportionate analytical approach, selecting methodologies appropriate to the complexity, objectives, and timescales of each project while maintaining quality and integrity.
  • Support the development and adoption of modern analytics, evaluation methods, and visualisation tools to enhance monitoring of outcomes, productivity, and performance.
  • Promote the effective use of data, analytics, and business intelligence by translating complex information into clear, actionable insight for operational and strategic decision-making.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Principle Duties

The principal responsibilities and duties of the Transformation and Improvement Analytics Lead include, but are not limited to:

Data Insights and Analytics

  • Lead the design and delivery of analytical evaluations for transformation, productivity, and service improvement programmes, ensuring benefits realisation and measurable outcomes are demonstrated using appropriate methodologies.
  • Make optimal use of the Business Intelligence System(s) and tools to provide the services with high-quality analytics that bring together different sources of information to provide a comprehensive and integrated analysis of service performance as well as providing data and insights needed to support decision-making.
  • Assess incoming analytical requests and determine the most appropriate analytical approach, balancing methodological rigour with timely delivery and selecting pragmatic techniques that provide robust, actionable insights and recommendations to support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Manage the development of a suite of business intelligence and analytics reports which will include elements of quality of care, safety of patients, key staff metrics, as well as capacity and demand and performance trends to support service improvement and business development.
  • Produce high-quality analytical reports and dashboards that communicate programme performance, benefits realisation, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and governance groups.
  • Develop and maintain benefits realisation frameworks, ensuring that financial, operational, clinical, workforce, and patient outcome benefits are clearly defined, measured, tracked, and reported throughout a transformation programme’s lifecycle.
  • Provide expert advice on evaluation methodology, statistical analysis, and the interpretation of findings to ensure robust and credible evidence informs transformation decisions.
  • Lead on the analysis of public health and epidemiology profiles and forecasts across the area, but not limited to, covered by CNWL services.
  • Ensure that equality, health inequalities, patient experience, and population health outcomes are considered within evaluation methodologies and benefits assessments where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams at the outset of transformation initiatives to define evaluation methodologies, baseline measures, success criteria, and benefits realisation plans, ensuring evaluation is embedded from project inception rather than retrospectively applied.

Analytics Innovation

  • To champion and promote the use of modern statistical tools and techniques both within the information team and across the organisation to ensure that analytical reports developed aid decision-making and service improvement.
  • Lead on and drive innovation in our analytics capabilities, explore potential solutions, and support the delivery of continuous improvement in this area.
  • Horizon scan and regularly attend relevant forums and events which will showcase opportunities and test cases on data processing and analytics.
  • Provide technical and analytical input into key strategic projects to develop and enhance data processing and data sharing both within the Trust and across the healthcare system.

Stakeholder and Business Engagement

  • Develop trusted working relationships with clinical, operational, and transformation stakeholders, acting as the principal analytical partner throughout the lifecycle of transformation and improvement programmes.
  • Develop robust project tracking and benefits realisation frameworks to monitor analytical delivery, ensuring stakeholders remain informed of progress, risks, dependencies, and agreed timescales throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative, customer-focused approach that ensures analytical outputs are proportionate, clearly understood, and aligned with stakeholder expectations and organisational priorities.
  • Present complex analytical findings and recommendations clearly and succinctly using appropriate visualisation techniques, tailoring messages to both technical and non-technical audiences to support informed decision-making.
  • Develop and lead a Trust-wide Analytics Community of Practice that promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of modern analytical, evaluation, and data science techniques across services.
  • Provide expert advice on evaluation methodology, statistical analysis, and the interpretation of findings to ensure robust and credible evidence informs transformation decisions.
  • Promote the work of the data science and innovation function by routinely sharing outputs and learning of work undertaken, identifying lessons learnt, recommending improvements for future transformation programmes, and participating in the development of a regular newsletter.

Other Duties

The post holder, in discussion and agreement with the Director of Performance, Information and BI, may be required to actively be involved in projects across any of the Trust's areas of responsibility at a level appropriate to their job grade.
