At BFBS we keep forces communities around the world connected with home through our broadcasting and entertainment - we’re looking for a Transmission Operator to join our TV & Cinema operations.
You’ll work in our busy Playout area looking after all the media associated with our broadcast, streaming and cinema outputs. There will be some editing and file-based management alongside live operations of playout channels including the reactive and changing situation of live sport, general technical quality control and coping with unforeseen faults and problems, all calmly whilst possibly feeling some pressure!
You may have experience of broadcast environment, working with typical MAM and Playout systems, maybe not, but you have a feel for the type of organisational and process-orientated skills required for the role, along with an accurate attention to detail.
Once in the role, you’ll check that material for daily Playout schedules is complete and in the correct state for transmission, providing first line fault correction and escalating problems as required. You’ll work closely with On-Air and Programme Planning teams and be completely comfortable in communicating with colleagues at all levels in providing a first-class level of service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
