About the Role
Are you an experienced Transport Administrator who understands the day:to:day demands of a busy transport operation?
Hutton and Co (Ships Chandlers) Ltd is looking for an experienced Transport Administrator to join its team at its Hull Head Office.
As a ships chandler, Hutton and Co supplies vessels calling at ports across the UK. Transport operations therefore need to work around vessel arrival and departure times, with deliveries coordinated to ensure goods reach vessels when they are needed.
This is a varied, hands:on role supporting the Transport Manager with the day:to:day administration and coordination of drivers, vehicles and transport compliance. You will be working closely with drivers and the wider transport team in an operation where priorities and timings can change, so we are looking for someone who already has experience working within a transport or fleet environment and can confidently get to grips with the role.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Maintaining regular day:to:day communication with drivers and responding to operational queries.
- Recording driver hours and maintaining accurate driver records.
- Carrying out and recording driver licence checks.
- Completing regular tachograph downloads and maintaining associated records.
- Supporting the monitoring of drivers hours and tachograph requirements.
- Arranging vehicle PMI inspections, servicing and other routine maintenance.
- Coordinating vehicle breakdowns, including liaising with drivers and repair or recovery providers.
- Maintaining vehicle maintenance and compliance records.
- Supporting the Transport Manager with driver recruitment and associated administration.
- Assisting with day:to:day transport planning.
- Helping to ensure driver, vehicle and operator records are maintained accurately and in accordance with relevant requirements.

What we're looking for
Previous experience in a transport, fleet or similar operational administration role is essential.
You'll Also Need
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Confidence communicating with drivers, colleagues and external providers.
- Good attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of accurate transport records.
- Confidence using computer:based systems and maintaining electronic records.
- The ability to remain calm and practical when priorities change or unexpected operational issues arise.

Experience of tachograph administration, drivers hours, vehicle maintenance scheduling, driver licence checks or wider transport compliance would be particularly useful.
A Transport Manager CPC qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
Hours
Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 4.00pm, with one Saturday in every three from 8.00am to 12.00pm.
Some flexibility will be required to meet the operational needs of the business.
Salary
A GBP 30,000:A GBP 32,000 per annum, depending on experience.
