Role Description
The Transport and Plant Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Stokenchurch, responsible for overseeing the company’s vehicle fleet and construction plant. Typical day-to-day tasks include:
- Planning and coordinating transport schedules
- Ensuring plant and vehicles are available and properly maintained
- Managing inspections, servicing, and repairs
- Liaising with site teams and suppliers
- Monitoring compliance with safety and legal requirements
- Optimizing costs related to fuel, maintenance, and hire
- Maintaining accurate records
- Handling incident and breakdown responses
- Supporting forward planning for projects
- Contributing to continuous improvement of transport and plant operations

- Experience in transport and fleet management, including scheduling, route planning, and vehicle utilization.
- Skills in plant and equipment management, such as coordinating maintenance, inspections, and repairs for construction machinery.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including record keeping, reporting, and use of relevant software systems.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, road transport legislation, and compliance standards relevant to utilities and construction environments.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills to work with site teams, suppliers, and internal management.
- Experience in the Utilities or Telecoms sector is beneficial, along with familiarity with working with multiple gangs or crews across different sites.
- A valid driving license is required; professional transport or plant management qualifications (e.g., CPC, NVQ, or similar) are advantageous.
- Proficiency in basic IT tools (email, spreadsheets, fleet or asset management systems) and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment are expected.
