Role Description

The Transport and Plant Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Stokenchurch, responsible for overseeing the company’s vehicle fleet and construction plant. Typical day-to-day tasks include:

  • Planning and coordinating transport schedules
  • Ensuring plant and vehicles are available and properly maintained
  • Managing inspections, servicing, and repairs
  • Liaising with site teams and suppliers
  • Monitoring compliance with safety and legal requirements
  • Optimizing costs related to fuel, maintenance, and hire
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Handling incident and breakdown responses
  • Supporting forward planning for projects
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of transport and plant operations

  • Experience in transport and fleet management, including scheduling, route planning, and vehicle utilization.
  • Skills in plant and equipment management, such as coordinating maintenance, inspections, and repairs for construction machinery.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including record keeping, reporting, and use of relevant software systems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, road transport legislation, and compliance standards relevant to utilities and construction environments.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills to work with site teams, suppliers, and internal management.
  • Experience in the Utilities or Telecoms sector is beneficial, along with familiarity with working with multiple gangs or crews across different sites.
  • A valid driving license is required; professional transport or plant management qualifications (e.g., CPC, NVQ, or similar) are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in basic IT tools (email, spreadsheets, fleet or asset management systems) and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment are expected.
