We have a vacancy for a Transport Assessor (1 full time post and 1 part time 18.5 hrs post) to join the Passenger Transport Services Team within the Assisted Transport Service. This is a busy service providing school transport to eligible mainstream children and children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.
You will be working in a fast-paced environment dealing with time sensitive cases using the transport policy to determine eligibility for transport assistance both accurately and consistently. You will liaise with stakeholders such as SENA, the Admissions Service and schools. You will also assist with the administration of transport appeals, proactive communication with customers and stakeholders using a variety of ICT packages to maintain and record information.

About the Role
You will be required to assess both mainstream students and those with SEND who live in Leicestershire using the home to school transport policies, applying those policies in a consistent and fair way.
You will process application forms, enquiries and gather information from internal and external bodies to determine eligibility for those who are eligible for transport and communicate the decision, even when difficult, to parents, carers, school/colleges and internal staff in an assertive, calm and empathetic manner.
You will support the team in arranging appeal panel hearings, be involved with stage 1 appeals and plan and deliver an efficient service by providing accurate and correct decisions first time.
You will be required to work collaboratively as part of a larger team being flexible in your approach to work, prioritising competing work items and be able to work using your own initiative.
You will also support in the development and maintenance of efficient business processes to make best use of Council resources.
About You
To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in appropriate area plus experience.
- Be able to interpret and apply complex local policies and information from a number of sources, to support delivery of transport and enable effective communication
- Have excellent attention to detail and accuracy, strong analytical and evaluation skills, in relation to written and administrative tasks including reports and correspondence
- Be able to adapt to varying workloads and priorities, work to tight timescales and to agreed targets and a customer focused approach where the customer experience is central to the delivery of the service even when holding a difficult conversation.
- Knowledge and experience of using a range of IT systems
- Ability to work effectively within a team and independently
