Here at GXO, we’re currently looking for Assistant Transport General Manager to support the Screwfix Distribution Network. This is an exciting high-profile opportunity where you’ll play a critical role in shaping the culture, performance and future growth of the Contract. Working closely with the Transport General Manager, you’ll help establish robust operational processes, build and develop high performing teams, and ensure the network delivers against service, cost and quality expectations.

This is a full time, permanent position, where you’ll be working Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:00, 37.5 hours per week. Some flexibility is required; this is logistics after all!

You’ll be paid a salary of up to £70K per annum DOE and receive 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day leadership, development and motivation of the site team, ensuring that they consistently meet productivity and quality objectives
  • Responsible for over 170 units, +480 trailer, +250 drivers and a number of third-party sub contraction partners
  • Ensuring operations are legal and compliant with all legislative and company requirements
  • Ensuring adherence to all health and safety requirements, driving a culture of incremental improvement and all working procedures are clearly defined and cascaded, with regular reviews to ensure effectiveness
  • Must be proactive in seeking improvements in process/methods of operating, achievement of key performance indicators focused on service, safety and cost while establishing excellent working relationships with a range of stakeholders and being aware of business needs and objectives
  • Develop relationships with our union partners and improve communications and engagement for our colleagues to create an inclusive environment

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Proven transport fleet leadership experience, including CPC qualification, operating in fast-moving transport environments, IT/system capability, multi-site working, a full UK driving licence, and flexibility to meet customer demand
  • Strong people leadership skills with experience building, motivating and leading teams, maintaining positive union relationships, managing multiple priorities, and creating a compliant, procedure-led operating environment
  • Commercially focused with sound planning, budgetary, project and change management experience, plus a proactive approach to problem solving, risk evaluation and delivering practical solutions
