Transport Coordinator

Number of Roles: 1 | Division: Logistics | Location: Normanton

Outline of Role

To support the operational requirements of the transport function, ensuring transport availability and delivery in line with agreed customer schedules. The role is responsible for collating and analysing operational data to support key performance indicators (KPIs), drive service improvements, and identify cost-saving opportunities. The successful candidate will autonomously manage a range of transport administration activities while supporting compliance and maintaining accurate system records.

Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and book transport requirements to meet customer and business needs.
  • Collate, manage and align Proof of Delivery (POD) documentation.
  • Maintain and update transport system data using in-house systems.
  • Support transport compliance activities, including vehicle servicing schedules, driver digital tachograph downloads, and vehicle unit (VU) downloads.
  • Analyse transport and operational data to identify performance improvements and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Ensure data accuracy and alignment between transport systems and Sage.
  • Process purchase orders and sales orders through Sage.
  • Liaise with internal departments including warehousing, administration, finance, and group divisions to support transport operations.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with external suppliers and service providers.
  • Assist with the prompt processing of purchase invoices in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Provide flexible support across the transport department as required.

Knowledge And Experience Required

  • Previous experience within a transport, logistics, administration, or similar operational environment.
  • Knowledge of transport booking systems and transport processes.
  • Basic understanding of transport legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience of maintaining records, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Experience using IT systems, including Microsoft Office applications and Sage.
  • Experience dealing with customers and suppliers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal departments and stakeholders.

  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and report on data.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, Grade 4/C or above (desirable).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
