Job Description
Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Transport Coordinator to join our team at our NHS Grampian Patient Transport service. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a salary of £13.49 per hour (FTE £24,552 per annum).
The successful candidate would need to live within and work across the Grampian area.
About The Transport Coordinator Role
The role will coordinate NHS Grampian transport requests across Grampian matching volunteer drivers with planned patient transport for the Renal Service in Aberdeen City, Inverurie and Kincardine & Mearns. You will also coordinate ad hoc requests for patient discharge transport for specified hospitals. The role will support the Service Manager and you will be part of a team with other Coordinators.
You will coordinate and facilitate the smooth and effective delivery of the Renal Transport and Hospital Discharge services across the Grampian area, ensuring a reliable, safe and high-quality service for patients and working closely with relevant healthcare professionals, volunteers and other stakeholders.
Location: Home-based with travel across the Grampian area.
In order to fulfil this role, the successful candidate will need a full valid driving license and access to a vehicle with business use car insurance. Business mileage will be reimbursed via expenses.
Hours: 35 hours per week. Flexible between Monday - Saturday. This will be re-confirmed at the end of interviews.
What You’ll Need To Know
Knowledge
- Knowledge and understanding of volunteers and the voluntary sector.
- Knowledge and understanding of how community health and social care and the NHS work.
- An understanding of providing a supportive person-centred service.
- Good geographical knowledge of the NHS Grampian Area.
- Knowledge of GDPR, safeguarding adults, professional boundaries, collaborative working.
Skills
- The ability to proficiently use standard IT systems, email, Microsoft Teams and role-specific databases.
- Excellent communication ability at all levels.
- A valid driving license and access to a vehicle with business insurance (mileage paid/reimbursed).
Experience
- Worked as or with volunteers.
- Working with confidential information and the ways and means of keeping it confidential.
- Working with vulnerable people and identifying issues that may raise concerns about their health or safety.
- PVG membership required – costs to be met by the employer.

This Is What You'll Be Doing
- Coordinate the day-to-day delivery of the service, matching volunteer drivers to patient transport needs and planning repeat renal patient journeys in advance.
- Recruit, train, coordinate and support volunteers to deliver a high-quality, person-centred service to patients, including those who may be vulnerable.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, data and statistics, supporting administrative duties and RVS Management Information Systems.
- Ensure access to suitable transport and a valid driving license to enable effective coverage of the service area.
- Support local Royal Voluntary Service fundraising activities as agreed with the Service and Operations Managers.
- Support compliance with statutory requirements, policies and procedures, including Health & Safety, Data Protection and Safeguarding.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties in line with the purpose and remit of the role, as agreed with the Service Manager.
