NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The Role
Driver will distribute clean linen to Hospital sites throughout NHSGGC area and neighbouring Health Board areas. Uplift dirty linen from differing NHSGGC sites and neighbouring Health Boards.
Driver will be responsible for carrying out vehicle checks and reporting defects.
Ensuring vehicles are driven in a safe manner.
Shifts are generally 7.5 hour days but driver may be asked to stay later to cover runs due to service demands.
It is essential Driver to hold a valid licence to drive 7.5t vehicles, Category C, CPC and Tachograph compliant.
This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a or a NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
This is a fixed term, part-time post for 6 months, working 22.5 hours per week.
The role is based at Hillington Laundry, 1 Jubilee Court, Glasgow, G52 4LB.
The shift pattern is 0700-1500, Friday To Sunday.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include but not extensively:
- Collection transportation and disposal of clinical and pharmaceutical waste from all sites, decant wheelie bins into Eurobins, segregation of waste into correct waste streams.
- Compile clinical waste supplies and deliver to customers.
- Load and unload disposal contractor.
- Collection of domestic waste and tip into compactor.
- Weigh and record all incoming and outgoing waste, clean vehicles & waste containers where required. Daily / weekly vehicle checks and to observe Duty of Care when using vehicles and equipment.
- Other duties may involve:
- Transportation of clean and foul linen.
- Transportation of clean and foul TSSU.
- Delivery of pharmaceutical products.
- Transportation of food / sandwiches.
- Uplift/delivery of specimens/ casenotes / ECG tapes.
- Nitro Oxide / oxygen bottles (F size).
- Moving of furniture / equipment. Delivery of supplies. Cleaning of vehicle.
- Observe Duty of Care when using vehicles and equipment.

Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience Required to do the Job
- Must be qualified to drive 7.5 ton vehicles.
- Knowledge of transport rules and regulations.
- Experience to drive 7.5 ton vehicles 3 years.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
