Lead the Future of Night-Time Transport Operations

We're looking for an exceptional Transport General Manager to lead and develop a complex, high-volume transport operation within one of our key Hub locations.

This is a strategic leadership role where you'll be responsible for delivering a safe, legally compliant, customer-focused, and cost-efficient transport operation. Working closely with the Head of Transport Operations, you'll drive operational excellence, lead large teams, optimise resources during peak periods, and ensure outstanding service delivery across our network.

What You'll Be Doing

As Transport General Manager, you will:

  • Lead the night-shift transport operation, ensuring excellence in performance, compliance, service, safety, and cost management.
  • Manage the strategic deployment of drivers, tractor units, trailers, and operational resources to meet business and customer demands.
  • Oversee the successful movement of parcels through the primary network during peak periods and manage significant B2C collection volumes.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Transport Shift Managers and operational teams, creating a high-performing culture.
  • Drive fuel efficiency and operational performance through effective use of transport management systems and vehicle telemetry tools.
  • Develop and deliver annual and peak operational plans, ensuring capacity, resource, and contingency requirements are met.
  • Ensure compliance with all transport legislation, health & safety requirements, and company standards.
  • Analyse operational performance, identify root causes of KPI failures, and implement effective improvement plans.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to support the successful onboarding of new clients and maximise profitability.
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers to deliver exceptional service.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

  • Significant transport management experience within a fast-paced logistics, distribution, or parcel environment.
  • Strong understanding of transport operations, compliance, and industry best practice.
  • Experience leading large operational teams through high-volume and peak trading periods.
  • Proven track record of delivering operational performance and cost efficiencies.
  • Experience using transport management systems and vehicle telematics.
  • Ability to produce and present detailed operational reports and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Experience working cross-functionally across operations, finance, HR, commercial, and customer-facing teams.
