Transport Manager

Portsmouth

The Transport Manager is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient management of the company’s transport operations across multiple depots.

The role has overall responsibility for the company’s HGV fleet including ADR and non-ADR tankers and white fleet, ensuring vehicles, drivers, and transport activities are managed in accordance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA standards, ADR regulations, road transport legislation, and company policies.

Acting as the nominated Transport Manager on the company’s Operator Licence(s), the Transport Manager will maintain effective and continuous management of transport operations, ensuring robust systems are in place for vehicle maintenance, driver compliance, record keeping, and regulatory oversight.

The role will also work closely with operational teams to ensure vehicles and drivers are available to support customer requirements while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and cost control.


Key Role Activities

  • The role has overall responsibility for the company’s HGV fleet including ADR and non-ADR tankers and white fleet, ensuring vehicles, drivers, and transport activities are managed in accordance with Operator Licence requirements, DVSA standards, ADR regulations, road transport legislation, and company policies.
  • Acting as the nominated Transport Manager on the company’s Operator Licence(s), the postholder will maintain effective and continuous management of transport operations, ensuring robust systems are in place for vehicle maintenance, driver compliance, record keeping, and regulatory oversight.
  • The role will also work closely with operational teams to ensure vehicles and drivers are available to support customer requirements while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and cost control.
  • Manage, plan & organise all aspects of Transport Management for the company at all of its Operating Centres/locations as required by legislation.
  • Ensure all HGV driving personnel and vehicle standards are met and tasks carried out in accordance with Marlin Environmental Services Quality Procedures and in line with Government Regulations.
  • To ensure that the company’s tanker/vehicle fleet is in compliance in accordance with all regulations & legal obligations.
  • Tanker/Vehicle Fleet – ensure that day-to-day operations processes and procedures are followed and adhered to in accordance with MES quality procedures.
  • Programme and facilitate driver training to ensure it is current and up to date at all times.
  • Investigate and record incidents, accidents, and complaints.
  • Carry out reviews on all aspects of transport related procedures and paperwork.
  • Ensure servicing & maintenance of all company vehicles, plant, and equipment is kept up to date and is being used safely & correctly and fit for purpose.
  • Deliver Transport related updates & hold toolbox talks.
  • Liaise with department heads, plan related activities, drive team performance whilst maintaining and increasing customer service standards.
  • Produce monthly KPI reports.

Qualifications

  • CPC qualification in Transport Management.
  • Experience acting as a nominated Transport Manager or managing operations under a Goods Vehicle Operator Licence.
  • Strong working knowledge of Operator Licence requirements and DVSA expectations.
  • Experience managing HGV drivers and commercial vehicle fleets.
  • Good knowledge of drivers’ hours, tachograph regulations, and Working Time requirements.
  • Experience managing preventative maintenance and vehicle roadworthiness systems.
  • Experience managing ADR vehicles and/or road tankers.
  • ADR qualification or strong working knowledge of ADR requirements.
  • Experience of multi-site or multi-depot transport operations.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
