Transport Manager

Menzies Distribution Solutions are currently looking for an experienced Transport Manager to lead our team in Wakefield. The purpose of the role is to maximise the performance of the operation by directing the daily activities, providing leadership, motivation, training and development of the workforce, executing against customer requirements. Ability to manage remote employees where necessary and dealing with customers CS teams. The role will encompass improving Menzies ways of working to continually reduce cost and aid in the implementation of new procedures, management of employees and on-site admin, transport, stock and warehouse operational requirements.

This role will ensure that all legislative and regulatory requirements are upheld, and the highest standards of health and safety are always maintained.

The Details

  • Working Week: Monday to Friday
  • Salary: £45,000 Per Annum, £19.24 Per Annum
  • Start & Finish Times: Between 07:00- 07:30
  • Hours Per Week: 45
  • Monthly Pay

Key Duties and Accountabilities (will include but not be limited to)

  • Maintain a safe working environment which complies with all aspects of the Company H&S policy
  • Accountability for the management and supervision of the Transport operation.
  • Effective leadership and management developing best practice across areas of responsibility.
  • Manage, support and develop the operational team through continuous improvement and proactive communication
  • Ensure the performance of the operation exceeds customer expectations in line with recognised contractual KPI's.
  • Liaise, support and develop effective working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Responsible for compliance including H&S and Standard Operating Procedures, including accident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Assist the Transport General Manager in ensuring all operational performance standards are met, monitored and maintained in accordance with contractual service level agreements.
  • Line management responsibility for the relevant Human Resources Policies and practices such as recruitment, development, absence management, performance management etc. circa 6 x Transport Supervisors. 100 x drivers
  • Liaise with the Compliance Manager to thoroughly investigate vehicle accidents and carry out any further disciplinary action where necessary.
  • Liaise with Compliance Manager to ensure the site compliance is managed to the company and legal standard in line with internal company audit.
  • Liaise with Lead Planners to ensure an efficient plan is developed and signed off for Day 1/Day 2
  • Plan and arrange for the training and development of operational staff, including upholding highest standards of H&S ensuring all inductions and regular training is complete and logged.
  • Responsible for the driver's rota being kept up to date and all vehicles resourced where required
  • Drive H&S culture through Notify system
  • Responsible for the office rota and all shifts covered where required
  • Driver/Transport Supervisor holiday management and authorisation
  • Ensuring unassigned revenue report is clear daily

Key Experience and Qualifications

  • Must have minimum of 5 years experience as a Transport Manager
  • People development and performance management
  • Budget management
  • National/International CPC holder (essential)
  • Transport Planning experience
  • Stakeholder Management - Internal/External
  • KPI development and measurement
  • Ability to plan and organise effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to use and understand computerised systems including TMS and WMS systems
  • Knowledge of H&S legislation, preferably IOSH qualified
  • High level of accuracy and numeracy, keen eye for detail
  • Medium to large transport operation experience (essential)
