We are an expanding transport, logistics and construction consultancy firm, with a head office based in Grantham, and are looking for an experienced transport professional to join our team in the South West.
We work with companies of all sizes, ranging from a single vehicle or operating centre through to national and international operations across a wide range of business sectors and markets.
Role Purpose
To provide professional transport management consultancy and training services to clients across the South West and wider UK.
The role combines supporting operators with compliance and legal requirements as an External Transport Manager (ETM), alongside delivering high-quality training in areas such as Driver CPC, Transport Manager CPC, FORS, ADR and other compliance-related courses.
The Transport Manager and Trainer will ensure that all work is carried out in line with company processes, documented systems, KPIs and Total Compliance’s values of professionalism, integrity, accountability and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
External Transport Manager (ETM) Duties
- Act as named Transport Manager on operator licences for assigned clients, ensuring legal compliance with operator licence undertakings.
- Monitor drivers’ hours, working time and tachograph data, escalating non-compliance where necessary.
- Oversee maintenance compliance, ensuring inspections, defect reporting and records meet DVSA requirements.
- Provide advice and guidance to clients on best practice, DVSA standards and Traffic Commissioner expectations.
- Carry out audits and produce reports in line with company templates and processes.
- Record and log all activity on the company CRM/ERP system, SAP Business One.

Training Duties
- Deliver training to drivers, transport managers and operators in classroom, online and on-site environments.
- Deliver Transport Manager CPC, Driver CPC, ADR, FORS and other courses in line with qualifications held.
- Adapt delivery methods to suit different learning styles, ensuring engagement and positive learner outcomes.
- Keep training materials and knowledge up to date in line with legislative changes and awarding body requirements.
- Support the development of new training content as required.
- Ensure all training delivery is logged, reported and quality assured in line with company processes.
General Responsibilities
- Work to agreed KPIs and targets for client satisfaction, training delivery and compliance standards.
- Accurately log all client interactions, training sessions, audits and consultancy work on SAP Business One.
- Follow written company processes and contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and delivery.
- Represent Total Compliance professionally at all times, acting as a trusted adviser to clients.
- Support marketing and business development activity when required, including webinars, articles and LinkedIn content.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance.
- Minimum requirement: CPC Transport Manager Qualification in HGV or PSV.
- Willingness to deliver training, with a training qualification available if required.
- Recognised training or teaching qualification, such as PTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education and Training or equivalent, desirable but not essential.
- Confident trainer with excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple clients.
- IT literate and comfortable using CRM/ERP systems, with SAP Business One experience desirable.
- Self-motivated, proactive and aligned with Total Compliance’s values-led approach to consultancy and making a difference within the transport industry.

Recruitment process

Application period and initial screening questions
All applicants must complete the application form and initial screening questions. Applications that do not meet the minimum requirements or are incomplete may be rejected at this stage.

First scan of applications
Applications are reviewed to identify candidates who best match the role requirements based on experience, qualifications and evidence of suitability. A shortlist is then created for the next stage.

Invitation to online chat
Shortlisted candidates are invited to an online chat to confirm interest and availability, discuss the role at a high level and clarify key points from the application. This stage is used to decide who progresses to the assessment stage.

Presentation submission
Candidates who pass the online chat stage are asked to submit a presentation on a set topic. The presentation is assessed against agreed criteria, including understanding of the role, communication skills and the ability to structure information clearly.

In-person interview
Candidates who meet the required standard at the presentation stage are invited to an in-person interview. This explores experience, competence, behavioural fit and role expectations. Any required documents are also checked at this stage.

Decision
A final decision is made based on performance across the recruitment stages, along with references and right to work checks where applicable. The successful candidate will be offered the role subject to the Company’s standard onboarding and probation process.
