We’re looking for a proactive Transport Manager (CPC) to join our Street Scene Fleet Management team at Birmingham City Council. This is a key role in ensuring our fleet operates efficiently, acting as the key interface between operational waste collection drivers and the fleet department.
You’ll work closely with colleagues and external partners to maintain accurate records, support operational analysis, and help deliver cost-effective services that keep Birmingham moving.
What You’ll Do...
- Ensuring that all transport-related operations are compliant with legal, safety and company standards.
- Monitoring driver compliance with tachograph regulations and driving license requirements.
- Managing compliance processes, overseeing vehicle availability, and coordinating maintenance and repair activities to ensure the smooth delivery of operational needs.
- Provide guidance and training to drivers on compliance and best practices.
- Acting as a subject matter expert for management and drivers needing guidance on transport regulations and best practices.
- Ensuring that an adequate number of vehicles are available daily to meet operational needs.
- Working closely with the fleet department and workshop to manage the allocation and availability of vehicles.
- Coordinating with internal and external maintenance providers to schedule regular servicing and urgent repairs.
- Tracking maintenance schedules and ensure all vehicles meet roadworthiness standards.
- Maintaining accurate records of defect reports, maintenance schedules, and compliance documentation.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Hold a CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification for transport management.
- Have a full, Clean driving license.
- Demonstrate proven significant experience in transport management, ideally within waste collection or a similar industry.
- Have experience working with operational drivers and fleet departments.
- Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with drivers and workshop staff.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge about health and safety regulations. Including risk assessments for vehicle operation, accident reporting, and safety protocols for drivers. Ensuring that safety procedures are followed reduces the risk of accidents and legal issues.
