We are now looking for a Transport Operations Manager to join our team and help us to continue to do things the right way for customers, colleagues and the planet.
With over 1,000 colleagues in multiple sites nationwide delivering excellent performance, we supply premium cooking oils, and collect organic waste, which is then converted into bio-methane, electricity, heat and organic fertiliser. We offer the human touch with local, community-based depots which seek to give back to those communities every chance we get.

Job Description
Transport Operations Manager
Thetford
Responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of depot operations. Ensure effective routing, management of operational resources to ensure they remain legally compliant and in a good state of repair. Deliver a safe service in line with agreed customer expectations. Establish and maintain an engaged and skilled driving and operations team.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
HEALTH & SAFETY
- Responsible for the safety culture in the driving team and the safe execution of all operations and driving activities at the depot.
- For example, manual handling training and compliance.
- Ensure all incidents including near miss, hazards, and accidents are responded to in line with company procedures.
- Undertake root cause analysis and implement preventative and improvement measures.
- Ensure drivers and operational employees are fully informed of safety requirements and enforce these.
- Ensure team members have the opportunity to raise concerns at any time and that these are addressed promptly.
SAFETY PROCEDURES
- Ensure all contractors have the appropriate permit-to-work paperwork in place.
FLEET COMPLIANCE
- Responsible for ensuring that the site remains fully compliant at all times and that safety and compliance is prioritised above round activity.
- This involves a wide range of activities including ensuring daily checks are completed by drivers.
- Drivers undertake vehicle checks at the start of, and on return from, rounds to identify any defects or damage.
- Also ensure vehicles are cleaned to Olleco standard, ensuring protection of the brand and that any spill tanks are emptied daily.
- Ensure drivers report any damage or defects to a manager for investigation.

MAINTENANCE
- Ensure maintenance activity is scheduled and undertaken in a timely manner.
- Responsible for the roadworthiness of all vehicles.
- Ensure that no vehicle goes out with a known issue.
- This applies to other machinery such as FLT’s and processing equipment where appropriate.
- Raise all PO’s for work to be carried out match with invoices and send to purchase ledger before month end, inform GM if vehicle costs are likely to go over budget.
LINE MANAGEMENT
- Responsible for managing the team to maximise engagement and retention whilst delivering the business goals in a safe and compliant manner.
- Undertake all line management activity.
- Ensure that new employees undergo robust and documented training programmes.
- Liaise with HR to ensure that employee records are up to date and in order.
COMPLIANCE
- Responsible for depot compliance which includes activities such as ensuring quarterly licence and working time disclaimer checks, DQC and government licence checks are undertaken.
- Delivering other compliance activities as required.
- Ensure drivers download daily digital tachograph cards.
- Download the vehicles weekly and upload the data to FTA.
- Highlight any concerns to the General Manager.
ROUTING
- Responsible for ensuring efficient routing to maximise round efficiency and volume of used & fresh oil and food waste collection as well as tipping scheduling.
- Undertake regular structured and ad hoc reviews of routing to ensure this.
- Responsible for rerouting due to driver absences whether planned or unplanned.
ADMINISTRATION
- Ensure all paperwork and systems are completed fully by yourself and by the drivers.
- Ensure drivers obtain appropriate signatures and customer information with legible signatures and printed names.
- Produce weekly/monthly wage documents for payroll.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
- Organise the transport of waste to the relevant depot/third party in line with agreed frequencies.
- Ensure waste is managed safely and efficiently whilst on site.
- Ensure all the appropriate documents and records are produced and retained to meet the relevant waste regulation requirements.

SUPPORT
- Provide support to General Manager and cover key tasks when required.
GENERAL
- Provide general support to the site and to other sites where required.
- Undertake project work as requested.
POSITION IN ORGANISATION
Reporting to Depot General Manager
- Line manage and oversee the operations team, drivers and allocated operational staff within the depot
- Work closely with other Operations Managers, Health and Safety specialists, Fleet team, Operations Trainers, and other support office specialists.

PROVEN ABILITY

- Extensive experience of managing multi drop routing
- Knowledge of and experience of applying Driving hours, Tachograph and Working Time Regulations
- Experience of leading with a safety and compliance mindset
- Demonstrable experience of delivering results in a logistics role
- Track record of improving the performance of others
- Excellent administrative skills
- Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills
Qualifications
- Hold current Transport Management CPC
- IOSH Managing Safely certification required (or willingness and capability to complete as a matter of urgency)
- GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
