Senior Transport Planner
Paul Basham Associates is an award-winning and rapidly growing Civil Engineering and Transport Planning consultancy. Due to continued growth across our business, we are seeking an ambitious and motivated Senior Transport Planner to join our expanding team based in our Southampton Office.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of development projects, influence transport solutions, and play a key role in supporting both clients and junior team members.
As a Senior Transport Planner, you'll take ownership of projects from inception through to completion, providing expert advice, managing client relationships, and delivering high-quality transport planning solutions across the UK.
Responsibilities:
- Leading and managing a variety of transport planning projects.
- Preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and Technical Notes.
- Managing project programmes, budgets, and commercial performance.
- Producing fee proposals and tenders for projects of all sizes.
- Liaising directly with clients, Local Highway Authorities, project teams, and other stakeholders.
- Attending public consultations, appeal hearings, client meetings, and authority discussions.
- Preparing planning appeal documentation including Statements of Case and Statements of Common Ground.
- Developing mitigation solutions to address capacity, safety, and active travel challenges.
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members.
- Contributing to S106 negotiations and wider planning discussions.
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships while supporting business development initiatives.

Experience/Qualifications:
- A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent industry experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
- At least 5 years' experience within transport planning.
- Strong knowledge of national, regional, and local transport planning policy and design guidance.
- Experience preparing technical reports and managing projects independently.
- Someone who can combine technical expertise with excellent communication and project management skills.
- A good understanding of junction modelling, trip generation, and distribution methodologies, including Decide and Provide principles.
- Experience designing and reviewing access arrangements, vehicle tracking, and visibility requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and support colleagues when required.
- Organised, proactive, and solutions-focused.
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Client-focused with the ability to build lasting professional relationships.
- Committed to delivering high-quality work and exceeding expectations.
