Shaping transport solutions that power regeneration and sustainable growth.

This role sits within the Transport Policy and Research Team, a collaborative and forward-thinking team that shapes how transport supports growth, regeneration and sustainability across the borough. Working closely with colleagues in regeneration, planning, climate change and economic development, the team develops transport strategies, policies and business cases that help create connected, inclusive and thriving communities. The team also works with regional partners, public transport operators and Transport North East to influence and deliver transport solutions that support local priorities and long-term growth.

Help create connected places where people and communities can thrive.

What You Will Get To Do

  • Act as the key transport planning interface for regeneration and major development projects, ensuring transport priorities are embedded within urban core developments, strategic regeneration frameworks and Local Plan updates.
  • Support the development of transport strategies, policies, schemes and business cases that contribute to wider council priorities, including economic development, climate change and health and wellbeing objectives.
  • Build effective relationships with Nexus, public transport operators and regional partners to support public transport improvements and collaborative initiatives.
  • Analyse transport trends, data and evidence to inform policy development and prepare reports, briefing papers and cabinet reports.
  • Represent the Council at local and regional transport forums, working with NEMSA and neighbouring authorities to shape transport strategies and policies.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance by keeping up to date with transport policy, legislation and best practice.
  • Help drive a customer-focused approach to service delivery, promoting continuous improvement and high-quality outcomes.
  • Support the Team Leader, deputising when required and contributing to the wider work of the Transport Planning Team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
