Its services are delivered through a national network of more than 3,600 colleagues at 40+ sites, including nine strategic rail freight terminals, and a large modern fleet of trucks and handling equipment. Maritime operates over 50 daily rail services connecting major deep-sea ports with key inland markets. The business is committed to an ambitious decarbonisation strategy, investing in eHGVs, charging infrastructure, and lower-carbon transport solutions to build one of the most sustainable full-load supply chains in the UK.
Role Description
The Transport Planner is a full-time, on-site role, 4 on 4 off shifts. Based in the Greater Glasgow Area, responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring daily transport operations. This role involves scheduling vehicles and drivers, optimizing routes, and ensuring that deliveries and collections are completed safely, efficiently, and in line with customer requirements and service level agreements. The Transport Planner will work closely with drivers, operations teams, and customers to manage bookings, resolve issues, and communicate changes promptly and clearly.

Daily tasks include using transport management systems, monitoring fleet performance, managing compliance with regulations and company policies, and supporting continuous improvement in service quality and cost efficiency. The role also supports performance reporting, contributes to planning for peak periods, and collaborates on initiatives that align with Maritime’s sustainability and safety objectives.

Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong Transportation Planning and Transport Modelling skills to design efficient, reliable, and cost-effective transport solutions.
- Candidates should possess Transportation Management and Operations Management skills to oversee daily fleet activities, resource allocation, and regulatory compliance.
- Candidates should possess excellent Communication skills to coordinate with drivers, customers, and internal teams, and to manage issues in a clear, professional manner.
- Candidates should ideally have experience with transport management systems, route optimization tools, and basic data analysis for performance monitoring.
- Relevant qualifications such as a degree or vocational training in logistics, transport, supply chain, or a related field are beneficial.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-critical environment are advantageous.
- Knowledge of UK road transport regulations, health and safety standards, and an understanding of sustainable transport practices is preferred.
