About The Role
Join us here at Poundland & Dealz as a Transport Planner and you’ll play a key role in creating and maintaining efficient transport plans, helping to ensure our stock reaches stores safely, on time and as cost-effectively as possible.
Based at our Distribution Centre in Harlow you’ll work closely with Transport Operations, Supply Chain and our Warehouse and Retail teams, as well as external transport providers, to make sure delivery schedules are achievable and aligned with business requirements. From planning daily transport and trunking schedules, to optimising routes, vehicle utilisation and trailer fill, you’ll be at the heart of keeping our transport network moving efficiently across Harlow, Wigan, Scotland, Bristol, ROI, NI and other strategic locations.
Working in a fast-paced and reactive environment, you’ll monitor performance against plan, identify variances and take action to resolve issues. You’ll support seasonal peaks, new store openings and changes to delivery schedules, while providing planning support during operational incidents and periods of network disruption. You’ll also monitor key transport KPIs, produce operational reports and use data and insights to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
