About The Role

A Transport Planner is required in Slough for a temporary, full-time assignment lasting a minimum of two months, paying £16.83 per hour. Working Monday to Friday from 11:00am to 7:00pm, you will join a freight firm moving perishables and healthcare goods. Your duties involve briefing drivers, designing efficient routes, assigning workloads, and overseeing fleet usage. You will also verify compliance standards and track delivery performance. Prior experience in transport planning is essential, with strong organisational abilities and familiarity with scheduling software. The successful candidate will support the transport operation, ensuring effective route planning, fleet compliance and delivery performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Briefing and debriefing drivers at the start and end of shifts
  • Planning and optimising daily delivery and collection routes
  • Allocating work and managing driver resources effectively
  • Monitoring fleet utilisation and operational performance
  • Ensuring vehicles and drivers remain compliant with relevant legislation and company procedures
  • Monitoring driver hours, tachograph compliance and working time requirements
  • Managing any operational issues, delays or route changes throughout the day
  • Liaising with drivers, customers and internal teams to ensure smooth service delivery
  • Monitoring delivery schedules and ensuring agreed time windows are achieved
  • Managing exceptions and providing contingency planning where required
  • Maintaining accurate transport and operational records

Key Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience within a transport planning role
  • Strong knowledge of route planning
  • Understanding of drivers’ hours, tachograph and transport compliance
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced operational environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Good geographical knowledge
  • Confident using computer systems and IT literate
  • Experience within the airfreight industry (Desirable)

Checkable 5 year work history and willing to obtain DBS check.
