Are you looking for an interesting and rewarding career where you can help make a difference, solve problems and contribute to the future of transport? We are seeking a full-time Transport Planner or Assistant Transport Planner to join our established North team, based in Newcastle or Leeds.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
Our people are at the heart of everything we do. You will join a well-established team delivering a wide variety of projects for clients across the private and public sectors, including housing and commercial developers, local and highway authorities, architects, town planners and other professionals.
Your work will primarily focus on development-related transport planning, including assisting with Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and transport chapters within EIAs. You will arrange traffic, pedestrian and cyclist surveys, undertake site visits, analyse and interpret data using Excel and GIS, support highway designs and help develop active travel, inclusive mobility and sustainable transport solutions.
Full support will be provided on a day-to-day basis by an experienced transport planning professional.
Your Impact in this position
You will help turn data and site observations into practical transport solutions, supporting projects from initial assessment through to delivery. As your experience develops, you will build your technical knowledge of the UK planning process and use transport modelling and forecasting tools including TRICS, TEMPro, Junctions, LinSig and Transyt.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
