Job Introduction Transport Planner - Snodland

Are you an experienced Transport Planner looking for your next permanent role?

We are currently recruiting for a Transport Planner to join our friendly team based in Snodland, Kent. The focus of this role is to optimise programmes of work across the Tarmac business, maximising both volume and the most cost-effective transport solutions, while delivering an industry-leading service to all of our customers.

Main Responsibilities

As the successful Transport Planner, you will report to the Distribution Supervisor and be responsible for providing timely communication to all stakeholders, coordinating solutions to programme changes, and overseeing daily and weekly transport plans, including out-of-hours works.

On a day-to-day basis, duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting fleet operations, transport planners and weighbridge teams to maximise vehicle utilisation and minimise haulier queries.
  • Ensuring internal and external customers receive high levels of service and communication.
  • Managing the cost-effective distribution of Tarmac products to both internal and external customers.
  • Maintaining customer service levels through detailed planning of programmed works and regular communication with strategic customers.
  • Responding quickly and effectively to unplanned events that may impact delivery schedules or agreed service levels.
  • Developing transport programmes that improve utilisation and efficiency across internal and external fleets.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with external customers, supporting the area's commercial objectives.
  • Ensuring capacity information, forward programmes and operational plans are communicated effectively to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a safe, efficient and customer-focused transport service.

Working Hours

This role is a Monday to Friday position with a rota-based Saturday morning shift worked from home. We operate core working hours; however, flexibility around start and finish times may be required to support operational requirements and maintain team coverage.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have experience working in a similar transport planning or logistics environment and will demonstrate:

  • Experience of health and safety procedures.
  • Strong customer relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to engage confidently with stakeholders and customers at all levels.
  • Experience planning programmes of work and managing changing priorities.
  • Strong IT skills and experience using planning and scheduling systems.
  • The ability to reprioritise workloads effectively while supporting the wider team.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
