Transport Planner

Location: Navenby Feed Mill

Reporting to: Transport Manager

Are you organised, analytical and thrive in a fast-paced environment? Do you enjoy solving problems, working with people and ensuring operations run smoothly? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Planner to join our logistics team and play a key role in delivering a best-in-class transport operation.

About The Role

As a Transport Planner, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating daily transport movements across Great Britain, ensuring feed deliveries and logistics operations are executed safely, efficiently and cost-effectively. Working closely with drivers, third-party providers and internal stakeholders, you will help ensure service levels are met while supporting the wider agricultural operations plan.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport professional or someone looking to develop a career within logistics and transport planning.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Planning and coordinating transport requirements on a day 1/day 2 basis.
  • Managing daily transport schedules and maintaining planning and tracking systems.
  • Monitoring transport performance and delivering against operational KPIs.
  • Evaluating driver analytics to drive performance improvements.
  • Communicating effectively with drivers, service providers and internal teams to ensure smooth operations.
  • Managing day-to-day issues including breakdowns, route changes and driver queries.
  • Identifying transport risks and implementing practical mitigation plans.
  • Supporting delivery point master data management, including access restrictions and delivery time windows.
  • Assisting with bad weather contingency planning and operational continuity.
  • Reporting on delivery performance for both company and third-party carriers.
  • Supporting administration, compliance and logistics KPI reporting activities.
  • Ensuring driver hours compliance and adherence to transport legislation.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to optimise the end-to-end supply chain.

What We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from candidates who have:

  • Experience in transport planning within a logistics, distribution, manufacturing or 3PL environment, or a genuine interest in developing a career in logistics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good geographical knowledge and route-planning capability.
  • Experience monitoring and improving performance against KPIs.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Excel and other business systems.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond quickly to changing priorities.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of agricultural transport operations.
  • Experience using routing, scheduling or transport management systems.
  • Familiarity with Microlise telematics and vehicle tracking systems.
  • Digital Tachograph knowledge.
  • IOSH Health & Safety qualification.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Understanding of vehicle and trailer maintenance compliance.
  • Experience delivering continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of transport, health & safety and environmental legislation.
