Transport Planner - Healthcare Logistics
Join a Global Healthcare Logistics Leader
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Transport Planner to join a specialist Healthcare Logistics team in Derby. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in coordinating critical healthcare shipments across the UK and Europe, ensuring the highest standards of service, compliance, and operational excellence.
Working within a fast-paced healthcare road freight operation, you will be responsible for managing import, export, cross-trade, and domestic transport movements while maintaining strict adherence to customer-specific procedures and GDP (Good Distribution Practice) requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Planning & Operations
- Plan and coordinate healthcare road freight shipments across the UK and Europe.
- Manage import, export, domestic, and cross-trade movements.
- Create transport plans and ensure accurate communication with warehouse teams and transport partners.
- Produce manifests and shipment documentation, ensuring all information is complete and accurate.
- Arrange collections and deliveries while maintaining exceptional customer service standards.
- Work closely with European healthcare offices to coordinate groupage shipments.
- Create load plans for customers and warehouse operations.
Quotations & Supplier Management
- Obtain, negotiate, and secure competitive rates from approved hauliers.
- Produce spot quotations and set-rate proposals for customers.
- Award business to approved transport partners following successful quotation acceptance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with healthcare-approved hauliers and suppliers.

Customs & Compliance
- Prepare and manage customs documentation for import and export shipments.
- Ensure compliance with GDP regulations and healthcare-specific transport standards.
- Complete controlled drug checks and other regulatory requirements where applicable.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare quality guidelines and standard operating procedures.
Customer Service & Stakeholder Management
- Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Support customer onboarding activities, including SOP and work instruction creation.
- Attend customer and supplier meetings, providing operational expertise and support.
- Act as an escalation point for healthcare road freight operational queries.
Administration & Reporting
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure required documentation is received on time.
- Support accurate invoicing processes and resolve invoice queries.
- Arrange ferry bookings and understand routing requirements across Europe.
- Produce operational reports and maintain accurate shipment records.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience within Transport Planning, Road Freight Operations, Logistics Coordination, or Freight Forwarding.
- Knowledge of UK and European road freight operations.
- Experience working with customs processes and import/export documentation.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and customer service.
- Good IT skills, including transport management systems and Microsoft Office.
- Experience within healthcare logistics, pharmaceutical transport, GDP environments, or temperature-controlled logistics would be highly advantageous.
This is a temp to perm role, £28k, on-site parking.
