Position Summary

As a Transport Shift Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating daily transport operations, supporting a team of drivers, shunters, and clerical colleagues to deliver excellent service and operational performance. Working collaboratively across departments, you will help ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations while fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinate and support daily transport operations, ensuring workloads, service levels, and productivity targets are achieved safely and effectively.
  • Work closely with drivers, operational teams, and customer service colleagues to maintain excellent communication and deliver a positive customer experience.
  • Support, coach, and develop team members through regular feedback, training, performance reviews, and development opportunities.
  • Plan workforce resources, including shift preparation, holiday management, absence cover, and scheduling to meet operational requirements.
  • Monitor operational performance, compliance, fleet availability, and key performance indicators, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of health, safety, wellbeing, quality, and legal compliance across all transport activities.
  • Help prepare operational and financial reporting, support audits, and contribute to maintaining operational excellence and readiness.

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • You have experience supporting and leading teams within a fast-paced logistics, transport, FMCG, or operational environment, ideally including experience working in unionised settings.
  • You are committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety, food quality, compliance, and operational integrity.
  • You can effectively organise priorities, manage competing demands, and remain adaptable in a dynamic environment.
  • You build positive working relationships and communicate confidently and respectfully with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • You enjoy identifying opportunities for improvement and contributing ideas that help teams and processes work more effectively.
  • You are comfortable using operational systems and technology, including scheduling tools, Microsoft Office applications, and transport management systems.
  • Knowledge of transport legislation, industry regulations, Lean principles, and CPC certification would be beneficial, but we welcome applicants with transferable experience and a willingness to learn.
