Job Description

The Role

As a Transport Site Manager (Transport Manager, Logistics Manager, or Operations Manager), you will play a pivotal role within our Transport leadership team, taking full accountability for running an effective, productive, and legally compliant transport operation. Located at our major hub in South Elmsall, Pontefract, you will make a direct impact on our nationwide performance—ensuring our worldwide online customer orders are met and over 500 NEXT retail stores remain fully stocked.

You’ll work closely with the wider Senior Management Team across warehousing and distribution to adapt, innovate, and drive continuous improvement. At NEXT, we pioneer the way and invest in our people; you will be supported with ongoing Traffic Commissioner updates and senior leadership alignment to ensure you have the tools needed to succeed in our fast-paced, 24/7 operation.

Contract Details

  • Type: Permanent
  • Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Location: South Elmsall, Pontefract
  • Shift: Monday - Friday 08:00-16:00 with flexibility required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Operational Compliance: Act as a named CPC holder on the Operator’s Licence, maintaining the O-licence for your site, supporting partner sites, and conducting regular internal audits to align with Traffic Commissioner updates.
  • Lead & Empower Teams: Directly and indirectly lead a workforce of up to 500 people, mentoring your management team to become self-sufficient, confident decision-makers.
  • Deliver Performance & KPIs: Maintain complete accountability for operational deadlines, performance deliverables, and key metrics across a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.
  • Optimise Operational Planning: Manage weekly, monthly, and seasonal demand through effective resource planning, fleet capacity management, CPC training, and agency usage control.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement & Safety: Partner with warehousing and senior distribution leadership to champion safety-first policies while identifying and executing operational enhancements.

Requirements

  • Qualifications: A valid Transport Management CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
  • Proven Leadership: Significant experience in a senior management role within operational transport, retail, or online distribution, with a track record of leading large teams (100+ people).
  • People Development Skills: Strong ability to motivate, empower, and build self-sufficient management teams.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Excellent relationship-building and communication skills to work seamlessly across cross-functional senior teams.
  • Strategic & Adaptable Mindset: High capability to understand the bigger operational picture, manage multiple shifting priorities, and lead teams through change in high-pressure environments.
